Aproicot Update Follow-Up

Well, venomgfx said it would be done and so it was. Blenders' all-star coder Brecht has done it in record time! Blender now has real-time shadows in the editor and the Game Engine.

Promised and they delivered now a video is out showing off the new real-time shadows in the Blender Game Engine, and now, the video:

  1. This is a really great addition. You no longer have to set the light (guess its location), render, then tweek, render, tweek, render. Now you "Set it and forget it(tm)." This is going to make lighting vastly easier. Fantastic work!

  2. holy moly
    my eyes jsut fell out!

that is amazing work!!! man, first peach now apricot

hmm, maybe blender 2.47 or 2.48 will be the apricot release? :)

with all of this updating going on, and newdevelopments, jsut imagine what 2.50 might be...drool.......

anyway, great work! i cant wait to see the results

  3. Wow! Can't wait to use it!

Actually, more like, can't wait till I have the
setup to use it. Just gotta get a computer
with more ghz...I'm operating on one ghz.

Still, this makes me REALLY excited for the day
that I make my own real animation, and that
I have these awesome tools to look forward to!

    Nope, not April 1st.

Woah, this is some intense stuff. We didn't need "Big Buck Bunny" (joking) - Just the development and development videos alone are breathtaking and beautiful enough!

Btw... Aproicot is spelt Apricot... Unless that was done on purpose and I'm missing something...

  5. Why does the shadow on the gorund/ wall update when the lighting changes, but not the object itself?

Can that be turned on too? (sorry for that question I'm a newbie...)

Just noticed it, is the article title really like that "Aproicot"? Yay. Just checkin' in. Thanks. ^_^

  7. So does this help with non-game modeling too? I know it'd save me some trial and error render time if I could see approxmiate shadow location on my scene.

Are these shadows soft, or can they be soft? More info please!!

  8. @smick:
I'm gonna say yes and yes, based on the video. When the lamp is closer to the models, the shadows definitely look soft. And seeing as those shadows were being displayed in object mode (textured view?), I assume that they'll at least approximate shadows in your render.

  9. @Gryphon:
Thanks. I noticed some fuzzy shadows in the vid, but it was too small for me to see if he was just moving the lamp and there was some obscurity, or if it were a control he was adjusting.

This is so bad. I'm really happy with my setup right now, but I guess I'll check out the build if it's there, see if I can't make things happen.

    Nice work everyone involved!

  10. WOOT To The Trillionth POWER!!!

Not sure what I'm more excited about the most.

    1-The game
2-Or Interactive rendering with real-time shadows in the next Blender build!!
