Tape-à-l'oeil by JS

21

Well, I guess this is JS week, I saw his breakdown of his animation in BlenderArt Magazine #16 and was curious about it. Very impressive JS. So I'd thought I'd let you all know about it just in case some of you hadn't had the chance to read BAM yet.

BTW, Guarav, Sandra & crew, outstanding issue on #16, and BAM is 2 1/2 years old now.

Tape-à-l'oeil" is a 3d animation short movie created under the theme of "Cinema and myself". The short was created as a end of study project. The animation itself was created in 4 weeks while the rendering the editing was finalized in the fifth week of production.

  1. I've seen this animation a few days ago. So it is possible I was the first one to view it. At least one of the first.
It is an interesting animation. I like the style and the light bulb shots were looking very nice. So did the environments.

I've seen it a few weeks ago, so I must be gifted with some kind of super special preliminary vision or something like that!

Anyway, I liked it. Very nice animation for those 5 weeks it took to create.

  3. Wow, very impressive. Love the connection of music and visual. When the lights turned off and you are waiting for this lightbulb to turn on, it's just great ... and then the music! The lightbulb star cluster was impressive when they formed around the center lightbulb, and flying through the stars (lightbulb cluster) was enjoyable. Very well done, Jean-Sébastien Guillemette, and thanks for the music, Derek McTavish Mounce.

However, the animations could have been much more fluid, for both the character and the camera.

    Good job and God bless!

  4. very very very nice!!

p.s. on some criticism I found the movements of the film object too harsh and fast like artislight said

  5. That was beautiful. The music was very quiet, though -- I had to turn my speakers all the way up to hear it.

  6. Kind of reminds me of elephants dream, its great animation, and you think it might kind of mean something, but you dont know what its about.

  8. JS, good work, congratulations. I'm impressed with the quality of Your renderings.
Can You share with us more about the rendering pipeline? What render engine, how many passes? Did You use the node compositor?

    Thank You

  9. Boreto12, make sure to read the latest BlenderArt magazine. There is a simple overview of my pipeline and ways of work. It's nothing really complex..the point of this short was to succeed at making something decent using very minimalistic tools.

but to make things short, it's all pure Blender Internal. Used a bit of node compositing to affect the character and the background elements separatly..but nothing too complex (some blur and DOF).

To everyone else, wow! I'm really pleased with the response! thank you so much! :D

ray: never seen that before, actually I just skipped through it quite fast to see what it was about. Will check it entirely later today. Looks very interesting!

  10. Merci JS
I forgot about BlenderArtMagazine. Downloading now. Again - great render achievement! Keep posting!

    cheers
