2nd. YafRay Annual Contest

13

The second YafRay annual contest has started! If you use Blender 3d and YafRay, this is a great opportunity to put creativity creative energy into an interest project.

Here is a full description of the contest, by Alvaro Luna:

We have launched in YafRay.org a second annual contest to encourage YafRay
usage. The contest topic is: The Lost Bytes

"Where do the lost bytes go when your hard disk definitely crashes or when you
format it? and when a file is erased? The render should depict a heaven for
bytes where they can have a better life once they die in this world. One could
also image a bytes hell or even the well known bytes bucket. Imagine, what
happens to the evil bytes?"

The date limit to send us your entry is 1th of July 2008, 0:00 GMT, and
yaf(a)ray must be used for rendering your scene. Yaf(a)Ray is the active
development branch of YafRay.

There are prizes for the winners which consist on books about lighting and
texturing, although you can choose alternatively an item from the Blender eshop
or another CG book of similar price.

To know more about the contest, rules and deadline, visit this link at the YafRay user forums.

  1. This is neat! I will definitely try this. - Not saying anything about submitting an entry, but I will try it! I need more Yaf(a)ray practice, anyway.

  2. I don't Use YafRay. But I would like to see what the participants come up with the combination.
    am waiting for the winner.

  3. This sounds great! What a creative avenue we can take with the "bytes eternity" idea. Thanks! Now I need to figure out how to get good results with Yafray! ha ha

  4. Does anyone even still USE Yafray? lol

It hasn't been updated in yonks. If they want to increase more yafray usage, I could think of a sure fire way!

  5. Hi,

Do this mean that Yafray cannot be used to render ?
If so, where can i get Yaf(a)ray for human beings? and current Blender's plugin for Yafray works exporting to Yaf(a)ray? some questions that come to a plain user...
    thanks!

    Simon, is to me?

if so, please, don't take me as an stupid. When visiting yafray page, there is not any page for obvious downloads for yaf(a)ray, as there are obvious links to download actual YafRay. Following links' contest, there are'nt obvious and clear informations about how to get yaf(a)ray too. If this is a contest for geeks only, don't worry, I will leave you alone, but I hope this is not the case. Yafray were rays for the masses, and a better infotmation about is not so hard to post on the net, IMHO.

    If not, sorry.

I wonder from people wondering about other people using yafray 0.0.9. An axe is also an ancient tool but still useful today.

    thanks,
    Raimon

  8. Hi guys

Only Yaf(a)ray can be used for render your entry. It is obvious, only yaf(a)ray is being developed now, YafRay 0.0.9 development was stopped two years ago because the source code was exhausted. Yaf(a)ray the is the future.
You can get yaf(a)ray here, plus the patched version of Blender needed:

    http://www.yafray.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1159

Anyway yaf(a)ray is quite usable, and postprocessing is allowed, so you only need a good concept to enter the contest.

I would like to point out that you are absolutely right, the yafray site needs a reorganisation, and we are already working on it.
