Animation Contest - winners receive free rendering time on the Powua renderfarm

Here's an opportunity to win up to one full week of free rendering on the Powua renderfarm!

Contest Rules:

  1. Animation made on Blender using internal render or Yafray.
  2. Send to beta at powua dot com one still image of the animation in Jpeg or Tiff format between the 14-18 of April. On the 21 of April we will announce the results and send free codes to the winners!
  3. You can win one week, three days or 1 day of free rendering on a 16-processor renderfarm (1 powua node composed of 8 dual processor dual core for a total of 32 cores).

So basically there are 3 prizes for 3 possible winners.

    Anyway... I think I just might enter this. For me personally there is no better prize then time on a render farm.

  2. I would need something massive to render to take much advantage of the renderfarm's capabilities. So, even though it's an animation contest, we send a still image of the animation instead of the link to the video? How can they tell whether it's a good animation or not without a video? Maybe they just want the Jpeg/TIFF so they can have a thumbnail besides the video.

  3. I think the idea is to submit a still from an existing animation (or from a WIP) that you would like to have rendered at a much higher resolution than would be practical on the average computer.

    Or, maybe someone could create one heck of a cloth, fluid, or particles animation.

    They probably only want to see a still image instead of the entire animation due to email attachment limitations and the time it would take to review/judge several animations. So, anyone submitting an entry should pick the best "money shot" from their animation that demonstrates why it would be a good candidate for needing a renderfarm.

  4. If you break it down, with an average of 3 minutes per frame. Thats 20 frames an hour per cpu, so 480 frames over a 24 hour block. Running that across 16 processors thats a grand total of 7680 frames. At 25 fps thats 307.2 seconds of footage or about 5 minutes.
    Assuming they are all beauty passes. :)
