I met Roy Simmons about two years ago when I was in London for work. He then showed me a training DVD that he had created. The content of this DVD is now available online for free.
Roy writes:
This course is based on a successful DVD Video. I have decided to re-master the whole course for the web, it is a proven way to learn Blender 3d.
The best way to learn is to complete all 3 sections; introduction to the Blender interface, setting up the workspace. Then the City tutorials, followed by the more advanced building a caterpillar character. Once you have completed these, you will have gained a good grounding in Blender 3d.
Roy's videos are not 'traditional' video-tutorials that are recorded in realtime with narration, but rather annotated step-by-step instructions. I first thought this might be boring, but after watching a few of his tutorials I now believe that this is actually a great way to allow students to follow the instruction and repeat the exercises in their own pace.
Oh, and Roy: sorry for the delay in posting this. Next time I'm in London, drinks are on me!

I wish if the DVD is there to buy or an ISO image to download..
Watching these videos being loaded and streamed is annoying..
The word free has a very powerful meaning!
As for the tutorials they are excellent for some one that makes his first steps in Blender.
Always YouTube or Flash-format!!
Thats really annoying!!
Why not mov or mpg??
Why is Flash more annoying than mov? No matter which file format you post something in, there'll always be someone to complain about it ;-)
Let's think a moment here folks. Hosting via YouTube is free. Hosting a downloaded video on your own server becomes extremely expensive extremely fast.
So it's either watch it free on YouTube, not have it at all or end up having it be a paid service, which people will complain about.
Thanks for this great resource!
Why not create an ISO file and than torrent???
BTW thanks Roy.
If you are using firefox, the extension downloadHelper let you download any video you can watch online (I didn't got stuck 'till now)
Though for this one it is not really convenient as the instructions are not directly in the video.
I think that the video format is great. It is much higher resolution than youtube or even vimeo and the auto pause at text is a great feature. I kind of wish that i could save them but eh? how often am I not connected to the internet
Go here: http://www.browsertools.net/downloads1.html
Download "Flash Saving Plugin "
Install and you can save this kind of Flash-anims to your HD
:).
I think these are great, although it would be good to buy a DVD if he still has them available, as they're certainly more portable. I would assume all it takes is an email to him if that's how you want to go.
here is another way of saving the videos....
eg..
for the tutorial city1, this is the link:
http://www.brillsoft.com/tuts/cc.htm
add this link to your fav download manager, replace the htm by swf
so finally, the link would become
http://www.brillsoft.com/tuts/cc.swf
now download it
i wish his dvds n more stuff like these was available in indian markets
the tutorials are really easy to follow and i hav just one word for them---awesome...keep it up!!!
Hi Folks!
Thanks for the good response. Actually the DVD is a little out of date for some of the newer features, I will dig it out and review it to see if it would be suitable. The Flash format is fairly common, so most people should be able to view it. I used wink; a free prog to create these tut's. The point is you only move on when you click the continue arrow, which makes it easier follow along in Blender.
Those who wish for portability of the files, I am sure you can figure out how to download them! Then just run them in a browser.
Roy.
Roy, these tutorials are awesome!! They look great.
I hope to work on these after the noob to pro tutorials.
Thanks for sharing them.
