Boring site update: we upgraded our WordPress installation to the latest version. If run into any weirdness (new weirdness, that is ;-) let us know!

Interesting site update: we now support Gravatars. To have your gravatar shown in your comments (see my comment below), sign up on Gravatar.com and create an account.

From Gravatar.com:

Signing up for a gravatar.com account is FREE, and all that's required is your email address. Once you've signed up you can upload your avatar image and soon after you'll start seeing it on gravatar enabled weblogs!

Gravatar.com is run by the same people who write WordPress, by the way.

Update: we accept gravatars with a rating up to 'PG':

PG rated gravatars contain may contain rude gestures, provocatively dressed individuals, the lesser swear words, or mild violence.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. If your gravatar doesn't show, there can be two causes:

    1. The gravatar.com service has a caching time of between 5 and 10 minutes. If you change your images, it can take a while before you see the change here.

    2. We accept gravatars with a rating up to 'PG':

"PG rated gravatars contain may contain rude gestures, provocatively dressed individuals, the lesser swear words, or mild violence."

  2. Sorry to misuse your blog for this, no need to answer, just maybe you can tell the guys
in charge of the binaries this :) butcould there be a binary blender package for glibc
    2.5 or more recent?
2.3.6 is really very old, on my systems it no longer works.
(And i have trouble to compile blender from source too)

  3. Are the php upgrades causing some issues in Amsterdam? Or are you forgetting to feed the little critters and they are not turning the wheel? Or, did you use them in Peach, and now they're "too good" to spin the wheel?

  4. @Tony - Yeah thats me alright, but! luckily for me its an old picture =P will have to put a recent one up maybe! or i'll just replace myself with a mancandy render =P

  5. this is a test and only a test. had this been the real thing you would be drooling over my gravatar right now.

  6. I have to agree it's looking annoying, the avatars should be sitting closer to the name, could you move it to the left?
Also it might help to make the icons smaller but one step at a time.

  7. These are pretty cool, but it would be better if they were on the left side of the text, that way it would be less distracting (like in Blender Artists with the avitars)

  8. I updated the layout: moved the avatars to the left and made them slightly smaller. In order to not create a horrible layout, I also added a default picture for comments without a Gravatar.

You may need to shift+reload to get the new stylesheet info.

Do you think it's better this way?

  9. How irritating … someone on wordpress has my usual blender nickname, and my normal nickname has "-" characters in it! grr… :P
