I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Unfortunately all the students do not have a laptop - so it will be difficult for them to apply the information and to become effective users
Do you have a lab with computers, where the software is installed? Let them "use" the software. By the way, there are great tuts from TUFTS - let the students do them by themself.

  2. Labello, I noticed that also, In 5 classes that I have taught, there was only one woman in one of the classes and she left early. In my location most of the traditional artists are women, and so I expected that there would be more.
Good job Hazrul! Yes, I think Blender is bringing the world closer together.
    Peace,

  3. hi guys, thanks for the response. here at Malaysia, blender 3D is not as famous as maya, lightwave or 3D studio max. this presentation purpose are to introduce to the student and lecturers what the features and premise behind blender and it's capability. it is not really a technical workshop.you can say it is an introduction to blender software.

actually what i can say is, all of the students and lecturers are really surprise with blender capability on making 3D animation.some survey that i have done there show it is the first time that they have ever heard about blender. it is hard to find students and lecturer who knows and and have use blender 3D there.

anyway, after the presentation many of the student and lecturers show great interest in using blender.that is what I'm hoping for.

my vision is to take blender to the grass root level where all school and university here in Malaysia will use blender to do and learn 3D animation. this is what i aim for and i hope it can be done , just wait and see.

that's all for now, if there anything new here in Malaysia, i will update it for you guys and thanks for some of your advice.

  4. Many Blessings to you Hazrul. I am working in KL doing closed source to open source migration for a major local broadcast corporation. We are integrating Blender into our Maya pipeline and its good news that your introduction of Blender to schools would increase peoples' knowledge on and about the software. Unlike Art Institutes, Universities are notorious for churning out software operators instead of artists. I just hope that those University are also drilling their students in the art side of things just as strongly. Good work!!

  5. Victor Yap, which local broadcast corporation is this ? Are you guys hiring ? Need someone with the skill of blender running it on bleeding edge gentoo linux with R&D as his main focus ?
