New particle system learning resources

harmonic_02_01.jpgWith the new particle system coming out likely in the coming Peach release, we all probably want to learn more about how it works. So I've put together a collection of links to learn the new system. If you come across any resources yourself, let us know and we'll add them to the list.

I've named them according to the topic they cover:

  1. General information about the new particle system.
  2. Documentation on the rewrite of the particle system.
  3. Rewrite information.
  4. Introduction to the new particle system.
  5. System settings.
  6. None physics setting.
  7. Newtonian particle systems.
  8. Boids particle systems.
  9. Particle boids.
  10. Boids example.
  11. Explode with particles.
  12. Particle collision.
  13. Harmonic effector.
  14. Blenderartist's thread discussing the new particle system.

  1. That's awsome! I just wish there were more screenshots or videos not just settings and columns of numbers. Still - a-m-a-z-i-n-g stuff!

  2. WOW, exelent, everything I needed to do my short! only one little stupid question. Will I be able to use this on older version of blender? (2.44)

  3. To Crazy Jack:
NO! You won't able to use it on older version of blender...this NEW particle system currently is available only in SVN (development) versions now and will be added to next release..this system is very diferent from that old one outdated particle system that there until 2.45 release so the tutorials are not suitable for old system...
So the only solution now is to download one of the currently SVN trunk builds from http://www.graphicall.org for your operating system...

  4. It looks quite promising!
Can't wait for 2.50... must... download... build... :P

@Rabid Rabbit: if that's the one, it is accessible through #8.Boids particle systems.

@CrazyJack: The new features will probably not work with the old versions... (methinks :P)

  5. @goncalopp: you're right. In one of the links, they already say that it's not backward compatible
you'll need to tweak old systems (which roughly but not exactly get converted) but you wont be able to use it in older versions.

    Just as jaco said :)

    Great particle stuff :D Amazing!

  6. One thing you guys should know is that numbers 2 & 3 (which are my contributions to documentation :) are very outdated and probably shouldn't be used for any kind of reference on the current system. The same applies to some others too with varying degree, things have just changed so much lately that the docs can't keep up.

Atleast the docs written by olivS under "blender.org current changes since 2.44" should be up to date and were checked and approved by me.

  7. WOW! I just figured out the new particle system, and it rocks! It's so fun... THANK YOU JAHKA! NICE! I am literally laughing out loud playing with this thing.
