I just finished putting together a little teaser video featuring some of the examples and tutorials that will be featured in my upcoming book, Bounce, Tumble, and Splash! Simulating the Physical World with Blender 3D . I thought some of your readers might be interested in checking that out. It should give people some idea of what they can expect from the book.

As for the book itself, it's coming along great. I'm almost finished with the manuscript, although I'm expecting to do a fair amount of revising between now and the release of 2.50 to make sure that the book is as current as possible when it's released.

Also, the BlenderNation readers who weren't keen on the previous cover design may be pleased to know that their comments have been taken to heart. A new cover has been designed, and in fact it features artwork by one of the posters on that previous BN thread . So thanks to the BlenderNation readers for their feedback (and to 4museman for the new artwork)!

  1. Great! I've already "Introducing Character Animation with Blender", and i must say it: It's a really good book! Here in Argentina it's difficult to get those... but i'm sure i'll get that one too! ;)

  2. When is the book's release date? Amazon says June, but Barnes & Noble says February. Looking forward to this book. Thanks Tony for another great addition to my Blender reference library.

    Ok, I've been watching Blender for a while ... and I haven't really been completely impressed with it, particularly the GUI ... but watching this video and seeing what can be done in the physics I'm .. amazed. Surprised. And may rethink Blender and forget about upgrading my sorely out dated 3D Studio Max 7.

  4. Wow! Great! I like physics of Blender very much. And not just that! Blender saved me from another 3D pakage that degenerated somehow in development. I really enjoy animating characters in Blender now, because I came through Tony's previous book couple times. I can't wait to read this new one too! And I'm really happy that I could do my bit! Which means - I'll get my copy for free! Isn't that true? :-)

    Thanks for checking it out! To answer a few questions, I think that probably Amazon's guess is more accurate that Barnes and Noble, or at least safer. Basically, the release of the book depends on the release of 2.50. It won't come out at the same time, but a bit after. I need to be able to work with the manuscript until 2.50 comes out, to keep the book up to date. Then it goes through the last rounds of editing, layout, printing, getting distributed, etc. This will all be done as soon as possible, but I'm afraid it won't be February. I guess it's one more of many reasons to look forward to the 2.50 release!

    4museman, that's right, you're definitely in line for a copy of the book!

  7. very impressive book, I'm looking forward for it to come. I already have introducing character anmation, and the beginners guide to blender. It is getting better and better all the time. I used to use 3ds max, but I have switched totally to Blender

  8. Wow! Very impressive stuff! I was actually just thinking about making a jelly tutorial a couple of weeks ago... dang too slow eh? I'll be interested in seeing if I am using your methods without knowing it. I do it with a lattice, I deform the lattice with the softbody tools and apply it to a high poly object of the same shape.

    I look forward to hopefully getting a copy of this book, looks like it has some very interesting stuff in it. :D
