Polish Blender user Anna Celarek submitted a Blender animation to CGSociety's 'Strange Behavior' contest. It has a very distinct visual style and a funny story-line. On top of that, this is her FIRST project in Blender!
Anna writes on the CGSociety forum (here and here):
It's the story about a cat, who is hunting a mouse. The mouse turns out to be braver than the cat, and in the end the cat is the hunted one.
I'm aware that there are still a lot of errors there, especially the sky, and objects intersecting each other. However it was my first 3d animation ever, and my first project in Blender, so I'm happy with the result. I learned a lot, and that's the most important thing for me.
Blender is very confusing at the beginning (I worked in Max before), but after the first shock you learn how to work in it very efficiently, and in my opinion many things are solved better than in Max. User interface is better, once you get used to it. Unwrap is much better, also skinning, and there's a node-based material editor and video editing is possible too. Only big disadvantage that there's no Vray for Blender. It has a bit different workflow as far as big scenes are concerned, in Max I used X-Refs for that, here it's solved differently and I needed some time to find out.

Anna is actually Polish Blender user, as far as I know :)
congratulations i powodzenia
@Gradir: it's confusing - her personal webpage states Vienna, Austria, but her CGSociety profile says Vienna, Poland. Still, you probably know her better than me - I'll update the post, thanks!
Fine and funny! I like the sketchy look.
Brawo Anna! Życzę dalszych sukcesów ;)
Just saw it and wow, really well done !! Very smooth animation and the style is just great. Congrats.
Bart,
The link for the Quicktime download was missing the initial http:// when you entered it, by the looks of it, so it was treated as a relative link and is pointing to somewhere (non-existent) on Blendernation.com.
@Malcolm: fixed, thanks!
Amazing work, especially for a first project!
Nice one!
Very impressive artistic style and presentation. Kudos.
Great animation, made me laugh. I read th forum thread too by the way, nice to see your WIP.
I love the style :)
Kudos to style. Would appreciate more if made longer ;)
Thats a great short and as already mentioned, it's a bit TOO short ^^
btw, the filename "kot(.mov)" means "shit" in German...
Quite nice!!!
>> btw, the filename "kot(.mov)" means "shit" in German…
It means just "cat" in Polish... :)
Great artistic visual choice.
Humble > Kot in Polish mean just "cat" . :)
Blender is really Number ONE.
what a great image. Its looking like real.
this shows that a very good artist can use blender and we have a little masterpiece
It has a unique visual style and a funny twist too. Good Stuff :)
I noticed a credit to Wings 3d. What was it used for?
Peace
Congratulations !
Great and funny animation.
I like the graphic style a lot.
nice work Ania ;)
Hi
It's a great honour for me to appear here on frontpage :)
To answer some questions -
I am Polish actually, but I live in Austria for 16 years, so you could say I'm a little bit of both.
I didn't think about the german meaning of the word, I never translate my filenames...
Wings3d was used for the entire modelling, Blender for animation and render.
Some might have problems with viewing the animation on CGTalk, I noticed it does not always load fully to the end, the .mov on my webpage should work better.
Beautiful work !!! I love it !
Wonderfull Ania, I too really like the style. You have a great future!
@ Ania thanks for the info ;)
1st animation? Ana, this is sooooo soo so Brutal! Really, I dont know how much time you took to do this, but damn! Kick ass concept and animation! Really!
But of course, even if its first, of course you already add animation basics and good skills, so, it doesnt matther the 3d Apps, but Glad you used Blender ;D
Keep up the good work!!
Beautiful work.
That is one of the coolst CG styles I've ever seen. If you freeze the image, practically anywhere, it looks like a drawing! A good drawing!
amazing Ana! very distinctive style, I've never seen anything like that before. Though the flash video has trouble playing on my firefox/linux even when fully downloaded, it kinda chokes.
WOW!! sorprendente, nunca se me ocurrio que algo tan simple se pudiera ver tan bien, me encantan las texturas y los colores del ambiente, la animacion aunque no es perfecta esta muy bien lograda, felicitaciones.
awesome animation Anna :)
i like textures which you used to made this art.
Keep this level or go forward, im waiting for your next animation ;)
pozdrawiam
