Design the BlenderNation Header - First Result!

23

blog_header_1.jpgLast week I invited all of you to design a new BlenderNation header and we received quite a few excellent entries. Today I made my first selection: it's the banner by Gustav the Mushroom. I selected it because it fits very well in the site design and I like the clean, mathematical 3D look. Congratulations Gustav! Your image will be on the site until next week.

To see it, you may need to press SHIFT+reload in your browser; our well-trained webmonkeys will try to cache any content client-side (in your browser) for three days otherwise.

I'll keep scanning the original post for new material, so keep submitting! Also if your header image wasn't selected this week, I may still pick it next week.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Hey, it might be cool if you set the header to randomly show a new picture on each page refresh. Many sites do this already so the code should be easy to find.

This way , you can keep a library of header pictures, and perhaps update it with all completely new pictures every month or so.

    Just an idea.

  2. @KevinW: I'm afraid that would make the site quite a bit slower for everyone, and especially for people on slow connections. Right now the header image is cached in your browser and that saves both on loading time and on our bandwidth bill ;-)

  3. Theyre not random. I used the proportial edit on a grid. The pillars are just y scaled cubes.

Theres only one cube and then its parented to the grid (or is the grid parented to the cube? I cant remember...) and the grid has dubliverts on.
