A new book called "Starter Kit Blender", has been recently published by Pearson/Campus Press.
It is written by Jean-Michel Soler (jms in the blenderartists forums - he is well known for his script contributions to Blender) and Marie-France Soler. According to JMS it is intended to "Initiate the reader to Blender. From scratch, one will be brought gradually to design a cartoon film, each chapter approaching an essential stage (management of space, rendering, lighting, materials, animation, sequencing, finalization). Thus, one will familiarize gradually by using the software."
Included with the book is a DVD which contains the demo files needed to support the training materials, as well as 104 flash animations that illustrate the usage of each tool.

Thanks a lot for this article.
This book was really written for french readers so all the content was thought for this readership : all the snapshots of the interface were made with the french translation, we have written a few new scripts for the help menu so it is easiest to load directly the french translation of the manual on the blender's wiki, the help script for hotkeys is also translated into french (in fact, this script was firstly written for french users).
So we hope that the french-speaking public will appreciate all this work and make a hearty welcome to this book.
Amicalement,
harrypopof.
I just popped in to the Blender Institute this afternoon and I was there when Ton found a copy of this book on the doormat, so I had a chance to browse through it. It looks very well produced (of course I didn't understand the text well enough) and it'll be another proud member of the Blender library :)
Good news, one more Blender book in French.
As a French Blender user, I'm sometime tired of reading in english, so each new Book written in french is an happy event !
Merci JMS,
@harrypopof
@Roubal
@Bart
Perhaps a good surprise for you, today or tomorrow.
@jms: Ton told me he found a present for me in his mailbox. Cool! :)
@bart could you find a good reason to make the book appear again on the Blendernation headlines ?
:)
