Ekakiya's VJ Show, Pink Cow, Tokyo

18

ekakiya.jpgRemember the Blender party at the Pink Cow in Tokyo recently? (unfortunately we lost the post in the database-crash). One of the events was a VJ show by Blender artist Ekakiya and this show is now available on YouTube. Prepare yourself for an amazing ten minutes of video!

The video also contains fragments of his work 'The Magic of Amelia', which was shown on the 2006 Cannes Film Festival but was never released on the internet (only on DVD). I thoroughly enjoyed this, even if the YouTube video quality isn't very good.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. I am astonished. I cannot recall having seen such a diverse mix: cartoon, animation, clip art and numerous graphical effects. Did he exclusively use Blender for the editing and mixing? Amazing anyhow.

  2. Awesome playlist too. Is anyone J-music savvy enough to know what's playing past the three minute mark? It reminds me of Japanese SNES-hacking band YMCK

  3. Yeah.. unless someone feels like making a friend in japan, having them order it and having them mail it to you or flying over to japan to pick it up yourself... that film is impossible to get ahold of.

  4. Thank you for the introduction!
    And the Playlist is here.

  5. So great !! , I like your work very much !! , you have find very cool ways to produce nice images , and created various crazy universe .

maybe sometimes I'm not so fan of flashing things , and sometimes I'd like to see things more clearly , there is too much layer superposed in my opinion (sometimes) , But I assume this is because of the VJ stylization of your work.
also you have a crazy/funny way of throwing quick and dirty videos, and just after that lauching a wonderfull masterpiece , and maybe it's just the VJ look too , personally I found this crazy/funny
Also the music is well chosen , and the image match well .
I've seen only a few images and one or two videos of yours before , so it's great to see more of your work.
    congratulation for these ones !!

but now i'm wondering a few questions , do you use sound analyzing to produce video effects ?(I guess you don't) what is a realtime show ? , I can't even imagine a little bit that this was done in real time in blender . But maybe it's just a lack of knowledge , I've never came to make real time things in blender .
have you controlled real time effects during the show ?
By curiosity I'd like to know a little more of the technique behind this . But this is not so important , the result is much important .

keep on doing great things !!
