NASA Art Contest

14

187656main_rn_artcontest.jpgNASA has started an intriguing contest which should be of interest to some of you. The contest encourages art & design students to work with engineering students to depict a scene of "life and work on the Moon." Most of you have wide-ranging interests of course, so chances are that a few of you are well-qualified to try this out.

NASA's own post on the subject reads: "A new NASA contest encourages university art and design students to partner with science and engineering departments to create art representative of living and working on the moon. The goal is for students in the arts, science and engineering to collaboratively engage in NASA's mission to return humans to the moon by 2020, and eventually journey on to Mars and other destinations in the solar system."

This could be a great opportunity for someone, so don't miss out! Entries are due by December 1, 2007. If you're in high school, stay tuned, because a high-school level contest is planned for next Spring.

  1. > We're whalers on the moon, We carry a harpoon.
    > But there ain't no whales So we tell tall tales And sing our whaling tune……

knekke: That rhyme so reminds me of the story Abraxas and the Earthman by Rick Veitch. An odd little story about an earthman who gets abducted by some space whalers, with a Capt. Ahab type captain who's out for vengence against the great red space-whale, Abraxas.

The contest sounds cool too. ;)

  2. @TKR101010:
in fact it's a song from a Futurama episode that came to my mind when i read this article ;)
...but who knows where they got their inspirations from

  3. Patrick - not so rare. I have a degree in Electrical Engineering and I'm a Blender artist. (Well, given the quality of my work thus far, I'm not sure if artist qualifies....yet)

  4. I am also studying to engineer (eventually an aerospace engineer).

While I'm not a great artist, I feel I can hold my own as an artist.

The only thing I lack is time :)
