Update on Ohloh metrics for Blender

14

ohloh_screenshot.jpgYou all may remember the message about Ohloh beta from back in October 2006. Well, the people at Ohloh have worked hard to improve their site, and many new cool features have been implemented that makes it very nice to compare open source projects to each other. And the Ohloh metrics for Blender show steady growth and no signs of slowing down!

As a user you can show your appreciation for the program and the developers by stacking the project and giving any number of developers Kudos.

Wouldn't it be nice to see Blender on the first page among other popular software like Firefox and Subversion? Be sure to get a login, so you can make it happen!

  1. talking numbers, it's interesting to see that the estimated 'cost to redo the code from scratch' for Blender is almost the same as for firefox, who hire a number of people.

Hey, just a few points on our stats.

    * for valid stats we should really mask out external libraries (files in the extern directory) - FFMPEG probably the main one that uses a lot of space and is not a part of the Blender project.

incase people are worried development is tapering off -
    its not!

This is more a result of the recent 2.44 release (we had to stop adding in features at some point before release) and now with SVN, People are developing features in their own branches. (BMesh, Image/UI, PythonAPI, Event/3d input.... as well as google summer of code branches, did I miss any?)
    - these developments wont add to blenders stats until they are merged with trunk.

  3. Heh, a century! Only 11 more stacks to overtake WordPress, and 223 more stacks to get on the top 10 (PuTTY and Ubuntu tied at 322 for #9 and #10).

  4. Stacked! Come on guys - we should have had this on the front page by now! This article on blendernation isn't attracting much attention methinks - perhaps the name sounded too boring or confusing? NM!
    ~epat. :)

  5. 113 now, just registered and stacked it myself. Come on guys, it's not that hard to do, it took me bout 2mins maybe less to do. So hit 'render' on an animation in blender and while your waiting go to the site and help blender work it's way to the top, where it should be.

Hopefully the more Blender is seen the more it will be used and support by people. So it is a worthwhile thing to do.

  6. I'm thinking epat is onto something. A spicy title might attract more Blender stackers. I recommend one of the following:

Save A Puppy's Life: Stack Blender Now!

Beautiful Women Are Waiting To Meet Men Who Stack Blender!

Stack Blender And Make Up To $50,000 A Week!

Contest To Award 10 Lucky Blender Stackers A Trip To Outer Space!

Killer Robots Are On A Rampage Against Blender Users Who Don't Stack!

  7. Hey apollos I think your on to something but don't forget this old classic:
Enlarge your penis today, just stack blender!

or maybe trick the younger generations into doing it:
Stacking blender is bad for you and illegal! Click here to do it!

    or maybe for conspiracy nuts:
Stack blender to stop the government reading your emails!

If it works then maybe we should consider doing a fund raiser using the same techniques.

  8. Aussiedude, brilliant! Blender might even overtake Firefox with titles like those!

BTW Ton has made an appearance on the Top 10 kudos. He's number 10, I just checked.
