Blender workshop in Portugal

8

Luis BeleriqueSeems like the Portuguese community keeps growing.
And with this in mind we see some cool events coming up, such as this one.

Luis Belerique wrote to us on behalf of DoubleMV with the following:

doubleMV - R&D together with Audiência Zero will present a workshop concerning 3D modeling in Blender on July 14-15, 2007, held at "Cidade das Profissões / Porto Digital", in Porto.

This workshop is aimed at people that have little or no knowledge of 3D CGI (Computer Generated Imagery), specially 3D modeling, but have the interest and willingness in learning it.

On this workshop students will have a first contact with the basic concepts of 3D modeling using Blender and will learn the basic and essential methods of polygonal modeling. They will learn how to move, rotate and scale a object as a whole and also work in Edit Mode, changing the topology of the object with techniques like extrusion and subdivision.

The program of the 14 hour long workshop:

1. Blender's Interface
2. Creating Objects
3. Manipulating Objects
4. Editing Objects
5. Using Modifiers
6. Using specific modeling functions

Trainer: Luís Belerique (doubleMV - R&D)
Dates: 14 and 15 of July
Schedule: 10h00-13h00 // 14h00-18h00
Place: Cidade das Profissões (R. das Flores, 512, Porto, Portugal)

For more information on pricing and application go to
http://www.audienciazero.org/eixo/content/view/530/38/

The price is fairly low, 15 euros, meaning it shouldn't block anyone from showing up.

So, if you are one of those that keeps complaining about not having Blender workshops in Portugal, now is your chance.

  1. Good luck - I'm sure it will be great!
It's just a shame it's in Porto and not in Lisbon, or I might have dropped by!

First of all, i want to thank Rui for posting the news.

@madcello: Hello there, long time no see. Thank you :). According to the organizers (Audiência Zero) our target number of students will or has already been reached as i type this. Naturally this is all because of Blender's rising popularity, specially after Elephants Dream.

@mmelo: Thank you. Yes, for now it will be on Porto but there's the possibility of other workshops and education events on other places. Check http://www.blender-pt.com for updates on education courses and workshops.

  3. Dear friends, first off all congratulations , to the one(s) who had the idea of such workshop, and to evebody who in any how, has contribuited for the organization of event . Second of all, i'm so glad that it came to Porto, because normally, all the best events go to the capital lisbon, so, this showld be another example of the equality of distribuition of knwledge, from north to south, ant for all the major software companies, and major events, off all kninds.

I also believe that it doesn't happend more often, because of the sqared mentalities like mr. mmelo ( at least it's the only interpretation i can get from his post).

I really hope to see blender also in the island's Madeira, Açores, North, South, knoledge is from all to all .

Will se us soon, learning blender.

I can't belive anyone can say " It's just a shame it's in Porto and not in Lisbon, or I might have dropped by! ", and even then leaves the " I might ". For this and for other things it's wy we are like we are, A humanity full of poverty .

ONCE AGAING - CONGRATULATIONS BY THE ATTITUDE OF CREATING SUCH EVENTS

eheh... I clearly have been misunderstood. I think it's absolutely great that doubleMV is doing this, it's an awesome boost to Blender's visibility. And I agree that the increase of this awareness is every bit as important and welcome to my fellow countryman in Porto (or Faro, or Madeira or Freixo-de-Espada-à-Cinta for that matter) as it is in Lisbon.

It's just that I personally live in the Lisbon vicinity and, due to family commitments, I can't join you guys in the lovely city of Porto. Simple as that.

I'm not a square at all - quite the opposite, so I didn't even take offence. I have a fairly broad mind when it comes to the love for and universal reach of game development as I worked as a professional games developer in the UK for 5 years. Can you claim the same commitment yourself?

Anyway, you really should lighten up a bit. As Johnny Cash once said "We're in this together if we're in it at all". :-P

  5. I just live 1 m away from Bel, in the same house but in other room eheh:-P
I would like to say that he's a great communicator and for what I've seen of his workshop preparations I believe it will be a great event for Blender in Portugal. The fact that the inscription limits for the workshop were reached in a very short time is a clear indicator of Blender's popularity. I guess 3 or 4 workshops were needed to cover everyone interested.
I'm sure that everyone who will participate will enjoy it. It will be a wonderful weekend :-D

    Good luck Bel! :-D

  6. Well we're almost there .... thank's mr mello, i hope you can have a chance to join in another workshop . your post won it ! )))

i've got water running out of my mouth !!

hope to ear from you all soon ! and i also hope to have some blender renders to show you all !
