Katorlegaz.com Releases Models Under CC License

8

kllogo-80.jpgKatorlegaz.com, the good folks who hosted the original Blender Model Repository, has released all of the 3D models on their website under a Creative Commons license. From the site:

All of our 3D models are now Creative Commons, and related web pages have been updated to reflect the new licensing. Special thanks to all who donated to cover legal expenses from when we hosted the BMR.

There are a large variety of models under a number of different categories. Who knows? You might just find a model that you need for one of your projects there. It's great to see that despite the legal headaches that they've had to go through, Andrew and Jennifer are still willing to contribute to the community. Big thanks to them!

  1. jedrzej_s: They seem to be using this version (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/us/) of the license. You can see the license on each model when you try to download one. It allows you to use the models in commercial use. All you need to do is to attribute. I suppose the attribution part is defined better on Katorlegaz page somewhere. It is possible to disallow commercial use by using certain kind of Creative Commons license but it is not the case here.

  2. Commercial use of our models is allowed. As stated in the CC License:

    "You are free:

to Share — to copy, distribute, display, and perform the work
to Remix — to make derivative works"

Using our models in your original artwork and animations is considered a performance. Attribution would be greatly appreciated, but it is not necessary.

Attribution is required if you redistribute a model or any derivative of a model. As stated in the CC license:

"For any reuse or distribution, you must make clear to others the license terms of this work. The best way to do this is with a link to this web page."

If you make a derivative of one of our models and you redistribute it, you must give credit to us with at least a link to our site so that others understand the original source and original licensing.

It is not necessary, but we would greatly appreciate for people to contact us with links that show original works created with our models. If enough people send us links, we will post examples at the bottom of the 3D model page.
