essential.jpgAccording to Blender.org printing of the new Blender manual has begun.

Blender.org says:

Latest news: the printer reported one week delay, so shipping starts June 12th... pre-sale discount does end June 5th though

The announcement is on the Blender.org frontpage. If you haven't taken a look at this new resource make sure to give it a once over. The pricing is currently at a reduced rate for prerelease purchases, so get it at the reduced rate while you can!

The Blender.org describes the book:

'Essential Blender', the next book from the Blender Foundation, is your official guide to learning the fundamentals of this open and free 3D software suite. The book can be used as a step-by-step guide for people new to Blender or new to the latest changes in Blender.
This book is the ideal companion for the previous 2.3 Blender guide.

'Essential Blender' will get you working with modeling, materials and texturing, lighting, particle systems, several kinds of animation, and rendering. In addition, there are chapters on the new mesh sculpting tools and the brilliant compositor. For users familiar with other 3D packages, there are separate indices that reference topics using your application's terminology.

If you've been looking for a way to give yourself a solid foundation in the basic tools and techniques of Blender, 'Essential Blender' is there for you!

The book editor, Roland Hess, is a professional writer and Blender user for almost a decade. He has brought together a team of the best writers and artists in the Blender community to help on creating this new standard Blender guide.
Among the authors are Colin Litster, Ryan Dale, Mathias Pedersen, Andrew Dolphin, Tom Musgrove, Modron and Kevin Braun. Design and dtp is by Sandra Gilbert.

  1. Good news, but there is something weird with Blender E-shop :

In my account, this book is marked as shipped for at least 2 weeks, and it is not yet printed !

Before that, it was marked ordered since december 2006... In 2006 it was not even in project, I think.

Funny, but as the E-shop didn't answer to my mails about these strange things, I'm a bit worried about the delivery.

  2. @Roubal: Not sure whats going on there. Give them some time, I'm sure they'll get back to you as soon as they can. I will say I've ordered in the past from the shop and not had problems myself.

  3. I think I'm gonna order me one 'a them there books. I'll just have to wait till Monday so I can deposit my paycheck (yeah, money doesn't grow on Arbaro you know). I should still make the pre-order sale, though. I hope it can help me better understand how to use poles and loops in the area of subdivision modeling (poly-by-poly and box).

  4. Im ansious waiting on my copy, order it at the beginning of last month and them the
printout date was changed to the fifth of this month or somenthing like that, well lets
see how long i will have to wait.

  5. Since I reckon I might be Blender's longest lurker, I ordered this when I saw it coincided with the 2.44 release AND a whole bunch of free time I'm going to be having soon. I've been thinking that we needed a paper upgrade for the past couple of years.
