"Machines" - Music Video Made With Blender

20

machines_kisskiss.jpgRobert Schober (roboshobo) has done another music video using Blender. Nearly a year ago, we wrote about the ”Dear Valentine” music video he did.

This time around it's “Machines” by the band Kiss Kiss. The music video has a nice little hunter vs. prey themed story, and the very nice rock music goes along well with its stylistic look.

Robert writes briefly about the process:

All the animation is done in blender 2.42, the compositing was done in after effects for the sake of time, but I promise that learning nodes is on my list of things to do. Gimp was also used instead of Photoshop.

Keep an eye out for Robert Schober. It's probably not going to be the last music video he'll be doing with Blender!

  1. Seriously good - I like the way the animator has gone for the style to match the music. If this doesn't prove that Blender is a SERIOUS animators tool, nothing will!

Great Work - hope to see more of this kind of thing in the future

  2. Great visual style, great colors and great animation style... I love the way you solved the nuclear explossion and other animation issues...

    Congrats!

  3. It's cute and fitting

but there are some things I don't like:
    - the walks are crappy and so are some of the animations
    - the characters look like directly taken from the BSoD Character Animation Tutorial

great music, great video... I could see the tesselation on some models at some points so maybe that could be a bit higher... but otherwise it's fantastic.

    @ me yoda:
the animation is stylized. It tells a story. Maybe it could be a little better but I think it works as is....

The band is really good though. Sounds a lot like Muse.

  5. really great work. seriously, worked very well with the music. anyone know if it was rendered with internal or yafray?

  6. I watched this once all the way through without sound. You have some very nice shots. Keep up the good work, and perhaps see what you can do with just one blend file and the Render button - and let the world see it!

  7. Cool, thanks for all the comments. Previously I only used after effects for my animations and most of the videos i do now are live action with animation as a secondary component (Mates of State, The Blood Brothers)...

@yoda: it's true, i've only been using blender for a bit over a year and don't always get as much time as i'd like to hone my character animation skills in the 3D world...still a bit of a n00b. But I try to offset that with good design and stylized movements. Your comment reminded me to thank the author of the BSoD article you mentioned...It's how I figured out how to create and rig the bodies for this project. My last attempt with deer valentine resulted in me making the arms and legs seperate and then parenting them to the bodies which would have looked awful for this.

    thx!
