Nathan Letwory Becomes a Father

81

jesterprince_1uur4minutenoud.jpgLast Sunday, Blender developer Nathan Letwory [JesterKing] has become the proud father of a son, Rasmus. He was born on 15:55 in Turku, Finland, weighed 3680g and was 51cm long. Both mother and Rasmus are doing great; Nathan is already growing extra muscles from carrying and comforting the baby.

Welcome, Rasmus! Please *do* leave your father a little time to finish the pyNodes :)

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Nathan, All the best. Don't forget to take enough pictures and videos since they change so much (esp. in the first months). My son just turned 4(months) and my world (and time-schedule) changed big time. Again, congrats to you and your little family.

  2. I with Nam. I want a tutorial on how to make one!

    Nah jkin, congrats man!

PS: Do you know the average cost of child for age 0 to 18 is about $250,000(AUD*)... thats €153,707 in Euro.

    *AUD-Australian Dollars.

  3. Congratulations from Berlin, Nathan!
I have two childs and i love them but they are real time killers :)
Best wishes to your wife/girlfriend and Rasmus!

  4. Congratulations! My first child was born to me only 3 months ago, and I have never lost a wink of sleep. Maybe just lucky... Well good luck to you and your wonderful wife, I know you will love it! Just give all your support to your wife, and don't forget to sterilize those darn bottles. Congratulations once again!

  5. How I envy you!
I'd do that all over again believe me: who needs sleep anyway?

Live that to the fullest, do not cheat yourself of one second of that extraordinary experience.

    Jean

  6. oh, that's a very good cooperative project! better than elephant's dream!
and... thank you for sharing... your joy!

  7. Big congrats Nathan, to you and your family! Knowing the generous care and attention that you put into your work and into Blender, I'm sure he'll turn out just great! Better stock up on some of that strong black Finnish coffee though, for the weary mornings ahead :)

  8. Rock on! Congratulations, kids are a tremendous amount of fun. I have 4 now and number 5 is due in a few weeks.
    Buy stock in diaper companies.

  9. Congrats!
I have little brother and sister. Fun fun.
Like people have already said, sleepless nights ahead!
Good luck. Home he learns a nice sleep pattern early, for your sake...and for blender's sake XD

  10. Thank you all for your support! I've been the last few days every day with both of them at the hospital - hopefully they will be home soon. The boy is great (and so is his mother!).

Photos and video are shot all the time. For the video I'll be using Blender to edit it (ffmpeg is handy here) so I can burn our own DVD's :)

The SSS was very easy, just make baby, it is integrated. Same for the very nice sculpting, particle effects (hair), cloth and softbody collision is autoenabled when you dress the baby. There is even constraints like copy-to, floor, and some sort of self-learning AI that controls the armature. Muscle bulge is done very well, too, skin seems to deform just like it should. As a nice extra, it comes with a powerful mustard generator.

  11. I made a similair model 4 years ago, it's still giving me sleepless nights!
but can we see a wireframe...amazing render! excellent use of sss
    Congrats!!!

  12. Congratulations Jesterking or can I say, van harte gefeliciteert :P ? Also a really cool name for the baby, did you ever thought about what Rasmus means in Norway?, I thought it was quite funny meaning. :)

  13. Now that I call photorealistic. But without a wireframe, I think it is a fake :)

Nevermind, big congratulations Nathan. My son turns 8yrs soon, kids grow to fast man. I still can remember how I cut the cord, and not much longer he won't wanna play with daddy anymore. Enjoy every minute you can, even when they are stressfull times.

Best wishes to all of you
    Michael

  14. Congratulations on the new baby!

Also, thanks for all that you do for the Blender community. We really do appreciate the time you and all of the developers, testers, etc... contribute.

  15. Congrats. My third came about 6 months ago and there is nothing like fatherhood. It does make me wish blender didn't rely so heavily on two handed operation, however. It's hard to blend when holding a baby.

  16. Congratulations Nathan! Make sure not to rush on the pyNodes pal. But it'd be lovely if they'd finish!

Take care! You, the mother and ofcourse lil' Rasmus!

  17. Congratulations Nathan and your wife as well of course.
About all the people saying, make sure he becomes a blenderhead and such:
sorry I disagree with all of you. Let Rasmus choose for himself, you'll be proud of him regardless.....
There's still another world out there, a green world with real trees and grass and such. If you'd have to "make sure" of something, I'd say make sure he knows about those things and learns to appreciate them.
Computers are to easy to be sucked into.
But when he's a little older, do let him know a whoooole lot of people around here welcomed him into this world.
    He's welcome here anytime.

  18. Hi,
I agree with the other guy - he will surely become a blender head someday ... so start planning now

... I know ... how about start him with BlendPy scripting .... sounds great uhh ?

    Congratulation !
