Blender Entry Wins 3rd Prize in CGArena Winter Challenge, Includes Tutorial

16

final.jpgJassar has won the 3rd prize in CGArena's Winter Challenge. The mission was to create an image that gives you 'the feeling of winter', and I think Jassar did a great job. Congratulations!

Check out the final six nominees and the three winners.

There seems to be a bit of a trend that contest winners write a nice, long tutorial about their entry. Jassar is no exception. His tutorial focuses on the process of creating the image and not on the specific Blender functions that he used, but I think you'll find it an interesting read.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Alex:

What, there aren't any man eating snowmen where you live??

    To Jassar:

Great work! I like your image, and thanks for the tutorial explaining it also!

  2. Congratulations. Excellent image. I think this image provoked a greater feeling of winter than the snowman (although as someone who has modeled snowmen on occasion I will admit the snowman was also a pretty cool image).
