February CVS Report: During The Freeze

6

splash.jpgLook out everyone, we are on the verge of the next great Blender release. After the CVS freeze shortly after our last report, the cvs has been filled everyday with bug fixes. The freeze means that nothing new should be added, but there are on occassion a few commits that are just a little more than bug fixes.

Modifiers

Ben Batt (artificer) added a pretty significant commit for the UVProject Modifier:
1) Addendum to UVProject's multiple UV handling - "Override Image" button = * Added an "Override Image" button to the UVProject modifier; this overrides faces' currently assigned image with the one given in the modifier panel. This provides some of the functionality previously provided by the "Add UVs" button - you still need to add a UV layer manually, but you only need to change the image in one place.

2) Updating the UVProject modifier to handle multiple UV layers by adding a UV layer menu to the UVProject modifier

Scripts

Jean-Michel Soler's (JMS) latest version of his Google Earth importer was quietly added.

Sure, the RC3 builds are out, but what if you are looking for optimized builds with a splash screen by Basse? Then you're in luck! Check out BlenderBuilds and download our latest release.

  1. I can hardly wait for the final release *shiver*
only problem is, holidays in austria ended yesterday :(
at least in some parts of austria... so I'll have to wait until I have time

however, I am reloading the page every ten minutes ;)

  2. @qwequ777
    Not for students! :P
But I have to learn for exams which will be held after the "lecture free time" (Vorlesungsfreie Zeit = Ferien von der Uni).

  3. I love the tension that is built waiting for the next version... it'll be great!! Forgive me but I had a hard time trying to find where to post this but when loading an image file for a texture in the texture panel the ctrl-LMB no longer brings up pictures to chose from. I kinda liked that option myself. Is it a thing of the past or is this a real bug?

  4. From the mailinglist:

The Image browser has to be used with sense of humour, it is not meant to work at all!
It has been hidden from the code as selection method for that reason. A complete new system is being worked on.

So I guess the imagebrowser is removed from 2.43? But it will be back some day after 2.43 with better code, I guess.

  5. To panzi:
The new Image Browser is way cool, it allows to preview textures inside other .blend files and more...
But it isn't finished yet, so it won't be in this release.

I still think you can load an image using the image browser by clicking the CTRL button before pressing the open, but I guess it should be only in the Image area and no longer from the texture panel...

    Dunno, can't test it here.
