Blender Commercial Video: Share Control

25

still_th.jpgEdouard Tisserant contacted us about a commercial presentation that he made with Blender. The animation is simple but effective; it explains the technical concepts behind a Linux based backup and restore system.

Even though my French is only good enough to understand fragments of the text I can still follow the movie, which I think is a sign of a well produced storyline.

It's interesting to note that Eduard had been using Blender for only three months when he made this animation.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

Only three months, wooow :) He must have spent all his time for blender, like I did, when I find Blender on the OpenCd :) Congratulation! Nice work!

  2. ...my french is more than extrem poor but this is a very clear presentation of an concept.
Animation, Timing and style are really good!

  3. Man, that was great. The presentation and execution of the idea was excellent, and with only three months behind you, that's pretty impressive.

  4. Looking at the animation, the cool thing is it looks like he used a couple models I posted to the blender repository (well the previous iteration that I contributed to.

That's awesome. I'm pretty sure that was my keyboard, monitor and laptop models.

I was hoping those would come in handy somewhere.

    Cool!

  5. impressive !
    i'm with jeff & gaalgergely :3 month's !?
that dude must have (lots of) experience in other 3d software and/or programming.
i really like the way the scene changes morph into another, the shapes around the worker-cubicles turned into the frames around the distinctive groups of information they were related to, and also the frames of moving 'screenshots' that went by ended up being the startingpage/frame.

    veery slick !

  6. 3 months on Blender? Doesn't surprise me. The planning stages of a movie is what makes it good or not, before Blender is ever even opened. That's probably where any prior experience made the most impact.

Thanks for this post. It will impress and inspire many. Did me.

  7. Very Nice! The three months of Blender experience is proof that Blender isn't as difficult as some say. The difficulties can come from a lack of knowledge of things that have nothing to do with Blender as a tool (organization skills, general 3d concepts and techniques, etc.).

  8. As a french Blender user, I can bear out that the story line is very good.

This movie has certainly been very well prepared with a clear and strong storyboard.

Everything in the comments is in perfect synchro with the events shown.

A very good work done in a short time.

    Congratulations !

  9. Hmmm. It's in french, so I have no clue what the movie is about :)
Looks to much like a blender rendering to me.
And that purple house,... didn't I model that in 1985?

  10. great job, if i can do this for me is a good start :D

I try to create a boat to my 3d RPG help tool but i work hard i will publish on my blog take a look when i enable to publish i will do this here

  11. Great work,
The mix with voice and storytelling is in perfect synchronisation with the picture. (I'm french too )
All is simple to learn. I like the toon rendering. Great work !

  12. Hi all.

Many thanks Bart for publishing my work ! And many thanks for all the responses !
    Some updates:
    - passed 2 full month to make this video, learning curve included. I'm not a genius. Blender authors are.
    - did not write any storyboard. There was just a "feature list" to present, scene transitions have been chosen "step by step", rather opportunely. Sure I wouldn't have passed as many time if I did prepare a real story board.
    - used some voice synthesizers (i.e. : http://demo.acapela-group.com/ or http://www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php) for initial voice synchronization, and Armelle's voice have been recorded with Audacity once video was finished. I have just inserted/removed silences after all in order to get it synced with the movie.
    - The product name have changed. It is now named "Coach-Serveur". Here is the updated video:

    - Yes, I used some models available on the model repository at katorlegaz.com before it have been closed. Authors, please tell me if there is a problem with that.
    - I can provide the .blend file on email request for "educational purpose". I also plan to contribute some of the models I did to one of tblender
    - The last web site we did using Blender, Inkscape and OpenLaszlo : http://www.tymluglio.com (a blender-made video is available in front page email me for a demo password if you wanna see the rest)
