Ton has posted an announcement on blender.org about some of the work that's currently going on behind the scenes. There's new hardware being installed, blender.org gets a complete makeover and the final 2.43 release has been planned.
He writes:
We are going to migrate to new servers, and will use the occasion for a blender.org redesign as well.
Currently al blender.org services are hosted on two machines, both of them at least 5 years old. With current website standards, usage, and especially the ever growing userbase we should upgrade now.
During the first 10 days of february we will execute the first step of the upgrade plans.
[..] We want to complete this migration with the 2.43 release, to start with an exciting stress test for the systems and software. This is a reason why the 2.43 bugfixing cycle is a bit longer than usual.
I've been working on the Blender.org redesign with Matt Ebb (some keen observers at the Blender Conference could have seen us discussing the design in Cafe Cuba in Amsterdam). The new servers are being prepared by Marco. Ton is usually busy bossing us around (he's *very* good at that ;-)
Matt has prepared a teaser screenshot of the new design:

It looks like it's gonna be a busy weekend and week for us all but it's fun to work on these kinds of projects and I'm positive you'll all enjoy the end result!

wooohooo! New hardware is great! Can't wait to see the new website.
Good luck with the migration, guys - I know how much work this is and I'm looking forward to see (and use) the redesigned site.

Well I was wondering why the delay, though, I must say I thought this release had some major work done to it thus the need for the extra time doing bug fixes, but that update makes me even more happy to wait. Great job guys,
If those colors are anything to go by, it may be a surprise to those who haven't visited for a while. Leave you guys to it!
Thank you all for your hard work.
With out Blender 3D I would not be learning 3D on the computer.
I hope some day I can be helpful, maybe make a tutorial or something..
Thank you,
John L.
Ah...it seems that over the last couple of years quite a few of my favorite sites have gone from a dark background to a light one, to my disapointment. Dark backgrounds are so much easier on my eyes.
I'll be very happy to see this site go to a dark background :)
sooo cool....cant wait till 2.43...hopefully this moth...
oh no, a DARK website. that worries me
Excellant news! I can't wait!
Many thanks for your hard work blender devs .
How old are the current blender.org site ? 5 years too ?
@ erik dude :Yeah and blender rules too :-) .
Peace :-).
I would have hoped for a dynamic width design... doesn't look like it from the screenshot though... so, still a "thin strip in the middle of the screen" site? ;)
Looks great!
Thank to all the blender devs for their hard work .
Peace :-) .
the whole team is doing a very good job
thanks :)
p.s.: it's somehow like Christmas: two presents at the same time :D
Great!
Looks very good!
Great Job!!!
Thanks!
well whatever design they choose, as long as it is functional it is al well with me. a lot of the old site still has the old layout and doesn't seem very natural to me. I do hope they changed the screenshot in the top right though, it's getting old.
oh, i thought 2.43 was out. oh well.
wow, darkBlender.org!
Blender has moved into the dark side!
Dun dun dun don de dun don de dun.
Thank you to the whole Blender Team for all the amazing work done.
Good luck for the hardware change, it's a big deal !
For my own, I like dark backgrounds on websites.
When you spend in average 12 hours a day in front of a screen, watching a site with a dark background is like a week end for the eyes!
Take all your time for the official 2.43 release.
There is no emergency.
More waiting time an less bugs is better :o)
Good work !
Philippe.
The advances in Blender are amazing, and now an improved web site too! Thanks to everyone involved for their hard work!
I'm filled with exitement!

Discussing the new design in a cafe isnt a bright idea ;) . from what i could see it looked great and it will be a big improvement on the old design. Good luck with the upgrade.
Dark is - definitely - the new white :)
BA, take notice!
Dark side is the right side for you!
Fantastic stuff!!! Can't wait to see it
Please add some new graphics to the Blender website! It just adds a sense of renewal.
Cool! Looking forward to see the new site. Although I must say that The current Light theme is more invitingly for new users, than a black one. But the black one gives it a more prof look.

I hope that the entire site will be uniform in appearance, FreakyDude has a good point, the currant site is all mixed up, different layouts etc. you don't know the power of the dark side...
Quote: Dun dun dun don de dun don de dun.
Den den den DEN du don d_n du don
DEN du du DEN den du du don dun
do d_n d|n d_n d|n d_n
d|n d_n d|n don d_n
ufff... hard to write^^
DEN is highter than den
d|n is deepest, d_n is next, then, it's don.
I like Dark styles too. It's better to read white on black than black on white^^
If read it 5 times myself and I every time find a mistake^^

Wait. Blender 2.43 & the new Blender.org will be ready on 10 feb.?
That would be the nicest birthday gift I've ever had :)
Happy birthday Arno, on the 10th Feb.
How old?

16 :)
Then I can finally get 'legally drunk'.
Don't drive ;)
Wow wow wow! This's gonna be interesting. yEy! *claps*
It will be a dark one
Maybe black for this reason:

At first i was thinking: Cool gradient...
...still white. How many RCs are we going to see until the actual release?
