2007 Blender F1 Challenge Pre-announcement

13

bullx-f1.jpgCurtis has pre-announced the 2007 Blender F1 Challenge on the BlenderArtists. The challenge hasn't started yet (although you could of course already begin working on your entry), but at this time Curtis is looking for some feedback before it begins.

Curtis writes on BlenderArtists:

Wow! How time flys! It seems like the 2006 Blender F1 Challenge just finished yet here we are in a new year and the 2007 Challenge coming up. I plan on having the contest begin (as usual) with the start of the real F1 season which this year is March 18 (Australia for you F1 fans...). I look forward to seeing some awesome entries but last year will be very hard to beat. Check it out:

I hope to have the 2007 web site ready very soon. By the way, I don't care if you have already started on your 2007 entry (I have ). It gives you a nice jump of the rest of the field.

This year I am also opening up a discussion for suggestions on the rules. As usual, I get the final word on what the rules will be (it would be more like the real F1 this way ).

So this thread is for you to make suggestions for this year's Blender F1 Challenge. Before you make any suggestions, please consider that the rule should be fair to all Blender users - from newbie to guru.

I will start....

It may be fun to have a special "Judges Choice" category where a special award is given to a F1 entry decided on by an exclusive panel of judges.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Looking forward to it! Along with the entry maybe a wireframe render should also be submitted ... not really a rule but it should be encouraged.

  2. It would be nice to have a prize for novice, moderate, and advanced users instead of all skill levels competing with each other.

  3. OI OI.....

    RULE #1... Gr8Hamster should win!! :-)

-cockpit/capsule should definitely have to be enclosed.

-Perhaps this year the entries should involve the vehicles in strictly an action pose?
    ...or showcase scene?

-a novice, moderate, advanced skill level would be nice.... but that's ALOTTA money for the guy who holds this contest every year...
if anything have categories but still have the top 3 of all entires. know wut i mean?

if i think of anything else I'll mention it for sure... cause this year I'm finally going to return!

  4. Thanks for the input everyone and THANKS Bart for posting the "pre-announcement" on BlenderNation. I will be sure to let you know when I make the official announcement!

Gr8Hamster commented on the amount of money that the contest costs me every year but I do get great support from Ton and I am also working on some other "prospects". If anyone would like to help out with prizes OR have input what prizes should be offered, please email or comment here (or in the F1 thread at BlenderArtists.com).

    Ciao for now!
