Tutorial: Realistic Portrait

22

portraitthumb.pngalt_ligury has posted a really nice tutorial on how to do a realistic portrait. Not only is the tutorial made really well, but the result is amazing (see inset).

The tutorial is in French, however you can find an English babelfish translation here. It covers everything from taking reference pictures, modeling the face, getting textures made up, and even using hair particles to add that extra realism. Definitely worth checking out.

  1. Very good tutorial. Someone who knows French and English should translate it, Babelfish translations are a little hard to understand.

  2. Now there is this thing I don't understand: Many times it is mentioned that Blender can't handle multi UV maps. It was even mentioned somewhere that it is on the to do list of Brecht. And on the other hand, you see this fine example, heck, there is even a tut on how to accomplish multi UV maps at Blender Wiki. Am I missing something here??

  3. i think multi uv maps stands for different uv coord.... here he is using the uvmapping for all textures..
I might be wrong though :p

  4. Holy cow! Holy Cow! That final product on the tutorial is unbelievable! The whole process of it is genius! It's realy realistic.
    Nice work alt_ligury!

The final rendered image looks more real than him. For me that 3D work is very close to Final Fantasy: Spirit Within.

  6. great texturing.

and the modeling is simple and very effective.

all is left that we can finally create skin like shaders.
the rendering looks too much like a plaster sculpture.

  7. The result is amazing. I wish i could get to the english translation but strangely enough i am not able opening any alta vista page. Is there any server care?? It looks pretty strange to me for nobody else mentioned such a problem. Hopefully i'll find a way for getting this tutorial. Can't get this rendered image out of my head. Really astonishing what is able with Blender and a well skilled artist of course

  8. Maybe the link to cgtalk can be added to the article?

People, it's really senseless to post any google or babelfish translations
