Come have a Beer with Me in London?

33

I'll be in London on Friday the 10th of November to attend a workshop on 'Lightweight Content Management: Blogs and Wikis'. If you would like to meet up and chat about Blender for a couple of hours while enjoying a few drinks please read on.

I'm staying in the Millennium Gloucester Hotel, and I'll in the hotel lobby at 8:30pm. Look for the blue Blender shirt ;-)

It would be cool to meet you there, so if you have a chance just drop by!

PS: Nice historic detail: we had a user meeting in the very same place six years ago!

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. I live in Amsterdam, drink occasionally, and am also interested in "Lightweight Content Management: Blogs and Wikis", but no time to go there now. Maybe different time, different place (Leidseplein, Rembrandtplein)

  2. I would be up for a drink at the hotel, but I'm actually moving out of London tomorrow.

I hope you find someone to share a gritty english cider with :)

  3. Stuck in france but there is many ways to stay in the spirit.

    /send a virtual toast

To a full glass and an empty heart...

    /drink glass of #name your poison#

    Hips!

  4. I live in Brazil and I don't drink enough.
Why did you choose to go to London, where there is nobody, when the world is full of people most delighted with the idea of a drink? I think next time you have to attend workshops in Canada, Mexico, Scotland, France, Brazil, or better, Poland...

  5. I live in London, and drink copiously, but aside from not knowing you
it''s my wife's birthday and I'd get killed if I went drinking with a stranger instead of taking her to dinner
(especially as I'm going to the footy the day after)

  6. Well I live in London, don't drink alcohol but I'm sure the bar sells apple juice. I'll almost certainly be there tomorrow at 8:30 because I can't see any reason not to be! It will be the first time I've had the chance to meet another Blender user face to face instead of online so I'd like to take the opportunity.

  7. Haha - I'm South African, I lived in London until three months ago (East Sussex now) and am not averse to a social drink (or two. Or many), but the notice is too late for me to make it tomorrow, even though it's not such a great distance to go into London. Man, that's a shame, it would've been awesome to meet you, Bart, and have a good chat about Blender.

P.S. That said, I more like the ultimate Blender lurker than user. Every release for the past seven years and I still don't know how to use it...was never really able to dedicate the time to learning it that I wanted to. But my Blender Builds folder shows that at least the intention is there :D

  8. I just want to say how astounded I am with the camaraderie that is associated with the Blender community. If I were in London I would join you without fail! Here is a toast to Blender, it's users, and the idea that an open source software package so robust and well maintained continues to live on forever!
    Cheers,
    Don Weldon.

  9. I live less than two miles from that Hotel, so it would be hard to resist now I know it's possible to meet some other Blender users. Blender saved me from total poverty; I have a medical condition that prevents me going out to work, but I earn money from home using Blender. I'll discuss the details when we get together, and hopefully I'll learn a lot from what others have to say too!

  10. I do not drink anymore, but if you're ever in (the region of) Rotterdam let me know. It would be nice to meet someone from the Blender community!

    Cheers for now! :)

  11. It Was great to meet you Guys! note to the curious... The only person consuming alchoholic beverages was the webmaster of blendernation! :)

Its good to meet other people in person who are as enthusiastic about Blender as I am.
