On October 25th, 2006, Ton will be putting on a tux and heading to England for the UK Linux & Open Source Awards 2006.
Initially you might think that Blender would be up for the Best Linux/OSS Application award - as it should be every year - but it seems that it's Elephant's Dream that will be getting the attention as a shortlisted winner of the Best Use of CGI With Linux/Open Source award. And it certainly will be keeping good company with the likes of Over the Hedge (Dreamworks) and Monster House (Sony Pictures Imageworks) (both also shortlisted winners in the same category).
From the Linux Awards site:
Hosted by BBC's Top Gear Stig (aka Perry McCarthy), the UK Linux & Open Source Awards recognise the innovation, application, and excellence in Linux and Open Source. The two forms of awards this year are firstly nominated by [the readers of LinuxUser and Developer], then shortlisted and awarded by our panel of judges, and secondly nominated and awarded by the votes that the readers place.
Recognised as a prestigious industry accolade, the Awards receive increasing numbers of high quality entries each year from the companies, organisations, community projects and individuals that are leading Linux and Open Source into the future. The Finalists, Winners and Sponsors will benefit from an extensive publicity campaign and gain widespread recognition from the Awards.
This is a great honor for ED (and Blender), and I'm sure we are all interested in seeing Ton in a tuxedo.

Big fun! The way things look now, I will be at the same place two weeks later (Friday November 10/Saturday November 11)! (Not wearing a tux though ;-) Anyone interested in getting a beer?
It'd be nice to see ED getting awards out of the open source scene but congrats all the same it was a pretty short.. all be it a tad odd ;)
Does anyone know if we can we vote for Elephants Dream Online? I sure would!
I second that! Where where!
Congrats to all involved.
Will the tux also include a necktie or a 'vlinderdasje'?
