Sandra Gilbert Becomes a Mother

65

sandra.jpgOne of our prominent community members has some wonderful news to share. Sandra Gilbert, editor of BlenderArt Magazine, has given life to a daughter.

Sandra writes:

Jessica Lin Gilbert entered the world September 25, 2006 at 9:03 am She weighed 6 lbs 1 oz and was 21 inches long.

We came home from the hospital the very next day and have been doing a lot of sleeping and eating (baby and mommy :-P ). We are doing great.

Welcome to the world, little one - you're in for quite a ride. And congratulations to your parents! These must be happy but tiring times for them..

I say: bring on the Blender baby cards! :)

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Sandra,

Congratulations! What is even more amazing is that I have also become father on the same day! My daughter was born on 25 September @ 9:07, South African time (GMT+2).

All the best - I can relate to the 'pajama patrol'.

    Regards,
    Fellow Blenderer,
    Nicho Bouma.

  2. She looks so ... *real*, so very photorealistic! Can you post a wireframe, please?

All the best for you and your family! Enjoy the coming time of sleepless nights!

  5. Such a nice way to bring in the new day...reading wonderful news for a change.

A challenge for all you blender-heads out there...

Lets see if we can make a better world for this newest member of the blender community...and all those that follow.

    Congrats :)

  6. Congratualtions Sandra. I can relate to the tiredness. My third son was born two days after your daughter, and it just gets harder being up at all hours as I get older.

  7. Thanks for all the kind comments.

And no, she isn't my first, she is my 3rd. I also have a 17 year old son and a 14 year old daughter. Hubby also has a 14 year old son.

But since it has been so long, we actually feel like first time parents again. :P

It has been a week of fun, no sleep and lots of joy. :)

  8. cool, might be like the first one after all these years, i have one too, but he is only almost one year, in fact his birthday is next week.

  11. I think we all love Blender because it allows us to create. But truly, the woman has the ultimate ability to create. Us guys can only be geeky creating virtual reality, but you women have us men hands down when it comes to creating actual reality. Enjoy and God Bless!

  12. Congrats Sara. Being mother, or father in my case, is the greatest thing in the whole life.
I wish all the best for your baby, Sandra!

  13. congratulations! hope both Sandra and Jessica are doing really great. many thanks to Sandra for all her great work on BlenderArt magazine, and congratulations once again!

  14. Congrats from me also. I had to comment. Not just to show my appreciation of the fine mag you produce but also manage a family.
    Well done.
    Wishing all your family well.

  15. *lol*
I think it needed 9 months to render, but now it works in REALTIME and TRUECOLOUR without even a short lag^^
    Congratulations!
    Jessica is a nice Name!

    What Does Your Name Mean

    JESSICA

    Origin: Hebrew
    Meaning: God's Grace
    Woman of Wealth
    Peace
    god sees

    Wikipedia says something very interesting:
Jessica is a name from the Hebrew Yiskah (יִסְכָּה), name of a daughter of Haran, meaning "the Lord beholds" or "the Lord's gift."

The Hebrew root sakhah (ס.כ.ה) means "to see," so the name Yiskah, with the added yud, implies foresight or clairvoyance. There is midrash by Rashi suggesting that Yiskah is also a name for Sarah, so the meaning of this name makes sense for two reasons: people would gaze at her beauty, and she was known to be a prophetess. The name Jessica also stands for wealth.
