Tutorial: Modeling a Porsche in Blender

15

Porsche 550Luigino Bracci wrote to us pointing out a cool tutorial about making a Porsche. The tutorial is written in both French and English. While this is a bit old, it is still up to date and a good tutorial to those who eager to start modeling cars in Blender.

I have been a fan of SpeedTiti's cars ever since I saw his entry to the Peugeot contest, the Peugeot 9009 concept car. I love the way he plays with the light, the car materials and how well it matches with the perfect modeling he does.
You can see some of his work at his gallery.

The tutorial is simple and direct, it focus on building the basic shape of the Porsche 550. Although the author doesn't go much further, it is a great resource to start modeling a car as it explains where to get the blueprints of the car and how to set it up as well as where to actually start modeling.

You can check the tutorial here.

It would be great if the author could make a second tutorial on finishing the car, eventually creating the materials to use in the car paint and a basic light environment, that would show the beauty of it.

NOTE: for doing a car paint material that looks really nice I would advice checking out Matt Ebb's technique mentioned in a previous article and made available at his blog.

  1. great to have a tute on a Porsche, but the standard color for a Porsche is red. Really, it's almost like a trademark for them.

They had black and white too for a while. Porsche's are red now.

oh, no wait that was Ferrari.

    never mind.

Still, what a choice of color.
