Blender is everywhere, you can see more and more users switching to Blender everyday. With this in mind the Animatu organization decided to ask the Blender Foundation for some Blender representation at the event, but there's more.
As a Portuguese who is always available to spread Blender I accepted the offer to be at the event.
The Conference will be held in Beja, from 15 to 19 of November. It is focused on digital Cinema and Animation. But more information can be read from the official website.
At first it was their intention to have some Blender workshops at the Conference, to show people what is Blender and what's behind it, but this grown alot since then.
One of the major things is Elephants Dream (ED), it was submitted to the Animation Contest, the judge hasn't decided yet the selected animations, but I have a good feeling that ED will make it. And even more, I was asked to design a stand to show Elephants Dream. The initial plan was to have an area of 36m2 , to which I already sent the sketch, but no confirmation has been given yet, will post more on it once things get approved.
And this doesn't end here, there are two workshops planned and one talk on Open Source and CG, mainly focusing in Blender.
I will be performing a full day workshop entitled "Head modeling" (yes, I just can't get enough of it), covering most of the modeling tools, doing a small lighting setup for the render and also texturing the head using Blender UV-Mapping tools and The GiMP.
Another Portuguese Blenderhead will be there with me, his name is Luis Belerique and he will be performing the first workshop, an Introduction to Blender, focusing on the workflow and major tools in the package. He will give a two hour intensive show of what Blender can do and how can people use it. I just look forward to this.
We will also perform a one hour talk on Open Source in CG, trying to change the minds of the Portuguese fellows there, mainly the ones that work for bigger studios.
If you live in Portugal you can't miss this, if you don't live in Portugal it is a good excuse to come visit our great Country and meet some Blenderheads.

Cool - good luck with your presentation! I'd love to see some pictures and a report on that event here. I just had a look at Beja on Google Earth but that sure looks like one small town :) I hope you'll find a hotel!
Lisboa, such an inspiring town....
good luck blenderheads
Will you tape something from the event? Like bart did at Siggraph 2006?
Especially Modelling the head and Uv-etc.. tutorial would be cool..
@Bart: There is no need for an hotel, there are plenty of people renting rooms there. And sure I will photograph the whole event, making the obvious daily news available here :) .
@pontes: Thanks.
@LukasT: I might record just a bit, since I don't own a camera, I can only use my photographic camera, but this limits me to 25 minutes on my 2GB card. Anyone care to buy me two more 2GB sony memory stick cards ?
Anyway, I will be doing a quicker workshop on modeling and UV-Mapping at BConf too, only two hours, so I might get Bart to record it, what you say Bart ? ...
REALLY COOL! hope this is the start of many blender events in Portugal.
@paulo_gomes: I hope so, lets see what get from this one and then plan for the next one.
That's great i hope ED wins
This is unfair! I have been to portugal one week ago! Why dont they start such events in summer??!
Lisbon is really nice, if you like to model cliffs it's worth going down to Sines, there you can find a beautiful landscape
Hi everyone!
