Today I got the october issue of the german 'Linux Magazin', . There is an article about Blenders new features (3 1/2 pages). The issue will be available september 7th 2006.

Have a look at http://www.linuxmagazin.de

Procedural, a Brazilian blender site, noted that an article that mentions Elephants Dream appearing on one of the larger brazilian newspaper.

The text is basically telling how free software and cheap computing power is making movie production accessible for everyone and drawing more people to courses about animation.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Thank's for this article.

The timing for Elephant's Dream has been great. I've seen quite a few reports from the IFA showing the great picture quality of the upcoming HD revolution -- and it's always been that blender-made-masterpiece that's used to show the difference.

  2. I've recently done a review of Blender 2.42 for Linux Format magazine in the UK. I believe it goes on sale sometime in the middle of this month. Also, if you pick up a copy of PCFormat from I think February to May this year, you'll find my Blender -> Quake4 tutorial, where I added a new player character to Q4 via Blender. Just in case anyone is interested ! :)

  3. "MeiaLua", i have seen one of your tutorials in this mag, too bad, there was just only the modeling part, but i enjoyed it :)
(did not buy the rest of the mag, because lacking of money :D )
can i have a favor? pls, can you post your video files (or write a html tutorial) on the net? in the mag there was a few picture from the finished model with normal maps, did you made those as well with blender? how? :)

  4. @Greg,
Very glad you enjoyed it, it was a pleasure putting it together. In all, I used Blender for the basic modelling, SharpConstruct for detailing, then imported both models into XNormal to generate normal maps. Finally, I used the humble notepad for editing the md5 files and doing the various scripts. I will ask Adam (PCF Editor) if he'll allow me to post the stuff online somewhere, but I have to say I dont think its likely. Anyway, once again, glad you liked it!

  5. spong, a friend of mine told me the other day that there's a writeup about Elephants Dream in this month's issue of Desk:top, the popular Australian design and graphics magazine. I haven't been able to find a copy yet myself to verify, but hopefully will soon.

  6. Hi Bart;

Few month ago, me and a colleague had an interview in Publish magazine (from Graficus publishers) with mr. Alex Kunst.

In that meeting i gave him the tip to do omething about Blender, of which he never heard of.

To my pleasant surprise mr. Alex Kunst picked this up, which resulted in a verry positive article in this magazine (i believe the june edition).

Publish is a leading magazine for creative professionals.

perhaps you can contact them to ask for this edition for your archives

    cheers
