The Quake Community site Quake3Bits has published an extensive series of video tutorials on terrain creation in Blender and on exporting the resulting model to Quake. Obviously, they're aimed at the novice Blender user but they do go into subjects such as mesh modeling, assigning multiple materials to a mesh, UV mapping and UV painting.
From the description on the site:
"Nearly 3 hours of video walking through of the process of using Blender 3D to create low poly terrain models for games that support the creation and input of user made content. Although the final models are for use in idsoftwares games, the general usage of Blender to model objects is the same as it would be for other games; basically the general principles should hold true of any low poly modelling for any game that supports it.
There's nearly three hours of video available. If their server is slow, please give it a rest and try later.

Wow. Awesome tutorial. Another proof that Blender is very suitable for game development!
it'll be hella slow now that digg linked to it...
Very impressive!
Hi fellas!
Many, many thanks for making use of the info in the tutorials and posting a news item here, hope they'll be of use to someone!!
Yes, totally agree, Blender is more than capable of producing game art assets, I do pretty much everything in Blender these days including some recent MP maps for 4 (I've included the source files for those that are interested for a couple of them) as well as high-res models for render bumping and all sorts of other things.
Go team Blender!
Fstop: the links are posted in filefront so luckily that won't be a problem :)
Having problems downloading, I tried saving them left click, no luck. Can anyone help?
Sorry guys, I got it to work.
AARRG!! I waited in queue for an hour for some of these files, and when I finally got to the head of the line, it said "error, invalid key" or something about the file not being found! Stupid Filefront!! Why can't these guys put up a torrent or something??
More specifically, it's the Part 8 file that I'm having trouble downloading.... I am in my second hour of waiting in line.. :(
@ roofoo : becasue "these guys" (me) weren't exactly expecting these videos to suddenly become hugely popular!
I'm working on setting up a torrent as I type, just for you ;o)
cool - I've been looking for some good tutorials on low poly modeling and the like in Blender for a while, maybe thiese are just what I'm looking for lol... -epat
Cool! This is so cool! Thanks for posting it (the videos) up.

Some of the files are not available anymore ("invalide key", "file not found"), and I did not have time to get them all. :(
I'm missing parts 6,8 and 9. Are there somewhere mirrors?
OK chaps, couldn't manage to get torrent sorted out (if anyone knows how to do those or can set them up let me know) so I've uploaded the files to another mirror, rather than list all the files here just visit the following page.

BART you are my HERO!
This documentaion is simply AWESOME. That guys in Quake3bits are pure Rock and Roll!
You can now watch YouTube low res versions directly from the site, so those one lower connection speeds should be able to at least see something!
