Blender Trash

28

blenderTrash kopie.jpgOkay, this post is going to be a bit silly but I had a laugh when it happened to me so I guess I'll share it with you!

Ever since I worked for Not a Number, my house has been filled with Blender goodies: Sweaters, T-shirts, Blender lanyards, lots of books and also a handful of old Blender.nl stickers.

Now in the Netherlands when they come to collect the trash, we move our trash containers out on the street. And as we all live pretty close to each other, there are usually 10 of those trash-cans in a row on the street.

Last week Ninet (my wife) decided she needed something to put on those trash-cans to be able to tell them apart so that we would always get our own one back (don't ask me why - I'm not particularly attached to mine ;-), and she found those nice, bright-yellow stickers in my drawer.

So there you have it: my trash is now branded with a Blender logo, and my trash-cans are definitely the coolest in my street. After I told her how much some people would like to get their hands on those stickers she felt pretty silly, but what's done is done and I now have some very cool Blender Trash next to my house.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Haha. Thats awesome.

New stickers could always be printed up and sold at the Blender Store of course. I'm sure quite a few people including myself would buy some. :)

  2. AhAh... You may get the opposite effect of what you wanted to do...

Someone could steel your trash can only to get the stickers !

You'll find a list of suspects in the lines here above, it this happen !o)

    Philippe.

  3. Hehehehe, we also have all ours lined up in a row... Everybody in our little coldersack has put masking tape with our house number on it though (or spray painted.) The sticker idea is cool though :P

  4. Trash containers here all have their house numbers on them. It's not usually a problem though, as we just put them at the end of our drive way.

The "/dev/null" idea is the best.

  5. You know, when I saw the title for this blog, I thought it was referring to the current stills topic at the Internet Raytracing Competition. http://www.irtc.org/stills/curtopic.html. Although it's mostly POV-RAY-centric, you can use any app and I've always wondered why talented Blender artists haven't submitted any work. I thought the blog title was hinting that maybe we should get more involved in 3D competitions.

  6. Started rotfl as soon as I read the title bar in firefox... "Blender Trash at Blender Nation". LOL. I agree, you really should start printing those stickers.

  7. Hey you know I would definatly buy some stickers but know what would really be cool? Sending some of them landyards over my way!

I'd use it not only becuase it would be a great discussion piece for girls. But also represent OSS and the Blender Foundation.

If you think it would be possible to send one my way hit me up with a email Pleas.

  8. Lol, that reminds me about our trash...

Here in AZ we do practically the same thing, but we have ours spaced out as wide as our houses, so you'll see a trash can every house all the way down the street. Well, my dad wanted to be original, so he brought the trash can to his work and got the word "EDIBLE" PRINTED onto the front of the trash can! So, if you trusted what we wrote on the front of it, you'd think it was edible trash!

  9. Well Bart you've started it. Not only do I want the stickers but the containers also. So watch out when i'm in the neighbourhood ;-)

Let see if your trashcans can be found thru Google Earth :-))
