2.42 RC2 Released

16

The Blender Foundation released the second Release Candidate for version 2.42 last night. Again, they need your help to test it before it can be turned into a final Release.

Unfortunately there's no bugfix list available; I tried to pry the information from the bugtracker, but querying for 'closed' issues during the last seven days makes it crash. I've never been too fond of that tracker, to be honest. Oh well :)

Ton did tell me that there have been *heaps* of bugfixes though, so we'll just have to find them ourselves ;-)

Download

To get started, download the 2.42 RC2 for your platform and grab the 2.42 demo files.

Bugreporting

Before helping out with testing, please note the following:

  • If you found any problems in RC1, please re-test them in RC2.
  • If you have any (new or old) bug, check the open issues in the bugtracker before submitting a new one. If you have a better testcase or insight that might help to solve the bug, add it.
  • Most important of all: do not report the issues here, but use the bugtracker!

This is probably not the final release candidate; RC3 with added ffmpeg (movie library) support is expected in a few days from now.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. I think that this is great news once again, thank you to Ton and the team. I also wish to say congratulations to all you guys for the latest feature of the 3D world magazine. Finally, people may just start opening their eyes to the possibilities of blender. Great work!

  2. Great News! BTW, in the previous release there was really bad color banding in the renders. I upgraded my video card drivers and the banding went away. So, anyone with the same issue may be in need of a driver update.

  3. Great, gonna test this build when I'm at home again.
Btw are bugs reports for the bugtracker also welcome?

A few months ago I found a render bug in Blender and thought about reporting it. So I went to the bugtracker, used my e-mail to register and it said to check my email for confirmation for my account. When I checked my email it wasn't there, checked my spam box and nope nothing as well. I retryed but I had to make a new account becuase the email was already in use. Ok it said it sended the confirmation email and checked, again nothing, not in spam, not in inbox, nowhere.

Someone checked the log of the bugtracker if it sended and it said it succesfully sended the email, but I never got one, even not afther a few days. I have no clue but there must be some kind of problem with that confirmation email sending. I tried around 3 emails and made 3 accounts under the name JD-Multi but never got a confirmation, and still I can't post anything on the bugtracker. :/ Now I'm not a beginner, I know how to sign up for things and people thought I was dumb and didn't looked right, since then I tried 1 more time and again failed. Maybe it just doesn't like my name. :P Anyways, someone else noticed such problem?

  4. Hi!

Well, I tried to download the 2.42 RC1 Windows version and failed due to a server internal error...

Now, I've got the same problem with the 2.42 RC2 Windows version, so I can't test it too :o(

    Philippe.

  5. Blender 2.42 RC2 status: Downloading...Downloading...
    Erwin demos status: Downloading...Downloading...

Thanks Ton and the team, thanks Erwin.

  6. Ahhh!

I have finally downloaded the 2.42 RC2 for windows!

    Great job!

Well, I still can't download the examples for an unknown reason (server internal error).

I can't wait for checking the Vector blur feature !

    Philippe.

  7. @JD-Multi:

Have you gotten an account yet? I just made a new account without any problems. Maybe you should try using a different login? Maybe something without a "-" character?

  8. Kaptain Kubrick on

    Hey ya--

Does anyone know what the new shape tools are? Just a little curious about what they are able to do.

    kk

  9. Hi !

Kaptain Kubrick, for what I have seen, there is a new "Slurph" feature allowing to add a delay frame between the dispacement of the different vertices, following the order of their moving in the edition process...

    Philippe.

  10. Problem:

I still can't download the demo file... I don't understand. The download aborts after few seconds, each time (internal server error message).

Is there any mirror of this file available somewhere else ?

    Thanks in advance.

    Philippe.

  11. @Roubal: no idea what's happening there. As these are plain downloads and not some scripted thing I cannot think of a reason why there'd be an internal server error. If you want, you can get in touch with me via the contact form and I'll email you the demo file.
