Indigo Unbiased Renderer Version 0.5 Released

3

indigo_gallery.pngNicholas Chapman has been hard at work with updating his free unbiased raytracer Indigo (now version 0.5 released June 18th, 2006)

Main new features are:

  • Experimental support for bidirectional MLT and bidirectional path tracing
  • Measured complex indices of refraction for more realistic rendering of metals
  • Image based lighting using HDR environment maps
  • White balance setting for virtual camera
  • Improved colours
  • RGB and blackbody emission spectra
  • Reverse gamma correction for textures

There is also an Blender exporter for Indigo, though at the time of this writing it is for version 0.4. I'm unsure if an update to the exporter is necessary, but if you're an Indigo user, post a comment to tell us if it is!

Take a look at our last Indigo post for a more closer look at the program.

  1. This is quite confusing, but actually this is still a beta version... Check the changelog and you'll see it's 0.5test7

The page you link to actually has a newer version of the exporter that works with 0.5test7 (the Indigo author keeps changing things in the scene specs...), but the wiki is down for an upgrade at the moment.

  2. Thanks for the correction Ewout. I assumed since Nick posted the 0.5 version on the main site he had the final up. And since when I wrote this the exporter page was down I couldn't check if a 0.5 version was up yet.

  3. Да уж Но, как говорится, а воз и ныне там :)
