3D - No Plugins

7

3DNPIf you want to create embedded interactive 3D graphics for websites with Blender, then check out 3DNP (3D - No Plugins).

3DNP is a javascript player created by Thorsten Schlüter. It comes bundled with a Blender Python script to generate image sequences.

While not the fastest or most efficient method on this planet (every frame stored as a separate image on the webserver), it's free and you don't need any fancy 3d plugins to embed the images in your website (which is a major advantage in my humble opinion). In addition, it's really easy to use: I gave it a spin and I had my own name spinning in a web browser in a couple of minutes (no, I'm not going to share it ;-).

The browser support seems to be fine too: 3DNP has been tested for the following browsers:

  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6
  • Safari
  • Opera
  • Konqueror

Here are a few cool examples of the script in action:

Download the 3DNP Package and you'll find clearly written instructions inside on how to create your own interactive web content. If you need help or more information, check out this thread on Elysiun.com.
Enjoy, and *do* post links to your own work below!

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. great!
a small tip: make the camera the parent of your lights in the scene. if you now rotate the object in the browser, you have more the impression that you only rotate the the object.

  2. where can i find a more detailed tutorial because i don't know what to do to actually view my 3dnp as a .html file after changing the configure.js settings??? help would be much appreciated.
