YotoPhoto Image Repository

logo.pngYotoPhoto – it’s a weird name but it’s an awesome resource! Have you ever been working on a project and needed a reference image. Maybe you needed a color pallette, a background reference, or just some stock art for details in your textures – you can find all of these at YotoPhoto.

YotoPhoto is a web resource for finding copyleft photography. It’s far from a stock photography resource in quality and imagery but a good resource for free to use images. The images are linked to from other sites which makes it a powerful search tool and the average resolution is good enough for textures and references.

Yotophoto is a great resource and they have an advanced search where you can filter images by resolution (image size), license type and even colour. http://www.sxc.hu is one of the sites they index, and probably the largest/best collection of free stock photos. Other major sites include http://www.morguefile.com, http://www.imageafter.com, Wikimedia Commons (commons.wikimedia.com), and the creative commons pool at http://www.Flickr.com, which are all also indexed by yotophoto. http://www.PicFindr.com is another resource similar to yotophoto but with a different search approach; PicFindr literally performs your search on several sites simultaneously (including those listed above) and compiles the results into a single page with links to the individual photos, their terms of use and a link to the search results at the host site. Yotophoto is currently ahead in terms of advanced search options, but PicFindr is up and coming. For full disclosure, I am the developer of PicFindr.
