We now support OpenID

openid-logoDue to the insistent nagging of a certain unnamed individual (other than that this guy managed to blow four of his websites out of the water – without backups! Can you imagine THAT!? <evil grin>), you can now log in on BlenderNation using an OpenID account.

Update: no, we don't. I've disabled OpenID for now because it was giving too many problems, and the webserver turned out to be barfing out error messages like you wouldn't believe :-(

Well it doesn't work for me with my launchpad OpeinID. It says that there is no server at the address though I literaly copied it from my launchpad account!

hmm, how does this work? I have an open id but each time I try it on blendernation I end up on a blank page.

Wonderful, now a single password theft can screw you all over the Internet.

When I tried I only get part of a page back. That page has the title: "OpenID Authentication Redirect" and only loads part of the head (two stylesheet links and a style tag for .updated-error).

@Cub, that depends on your id provider. I use Verisign which uses a hardware token that I bought to change my password every 30 seconds. They also have options of using apps on your cell phone or browser certs. There are other providers that have challenge/response schemes that make stealing a password just the first hurdle a cracker has to overcome.

More curious. If I hit one of the pencils to edit my last post, the OpenID register/login works. If I use the login link in the article above, it does not work. If I try to logout with the link just above the Leave a Reply box, it fails with the message "You are attempting to log out of BlenderNation." But I can go to 'site admin' at the top and log out from there.

One aditional note: when attempting the login with the link in the article, BN does not get as far as requesting permission from my provider. So much fun

Scott: I was joking, but someone can steal the token.

Think about it. Folks may not want to see it, but this reduction to a single fallible point makes you more fragile.

    Good news!

Can't login with myvidoop.com using the link above.

Too bad that you had to disable it.

It's working swell on many sites I use. It's a good step to get better identity on the web. I hope you'll try again after a while. :-)

@Odin: I'm preparing a migration to a new server with PHP5 which should support the OpenID plugin. Keep your fingers crossed!
