Actually, I suspect that what they expected, was that their site would get the most votes...

Life is just full of these little disappointments...:):):)

...

P.S. Does anybody know if geekipedia got any votes...

I think it wasn't going the way they intended. After removing all the Blender sites, they have only a few thousand votes, which probably equates to little more than 1500-2000 voters total, if that. Blender occupies #1 by the space of at least 600 votes, with over 1000 total, which means that 2/3 of their voters were probably Blender users. Keep it on top folks!!!

I agree with Kernon. I reread their submissions text today and they still say, "Submit your own free website." This doesn't suggest "Youtube" or the like, it suggests YOUR OWN free website. Not sure what they were expecting but they obviously didn't get it. I guess I'm not surprised.

Modifying their own poll without qualification may have Wired Magazine subscribers asking, "what are we paying you for?"

Hmph. It appears that they've yanked all but one of the Blender listings. I don't see any of the community sites or anything. It's a shame that they censored their own listing after asking "submit your own free website". I can understand them removing the duplicate listings but, to yank them all is a pretty poor decision. They have a rating system in place. Any bad links would have easily been weeded out...as is the purpose of the rating system. And, since when is it spamming to respond to a request to "submit your own free website".

I think, I found blender, via googl(e)ing "free 3D game maker" or something like that^^
I searched for ever, though...
And after getting the GUI, I immediately knew, that I'll have to learn much, before being able to create games^^

The spam angle is a possibility. But I'm hoping that they'll take note of the enthusiasm surrounding Blender and give it a closer look. There are more articles on Wired featuring actual blenders (as in kitchen appliance) than articles related to the 3D application.

It's my opinion that Blender and the community surrounding it don't get enough attention as it is. This isn't just some open source project among many. This is a completely free, yet surprisingly powerful 3D modeling and animation package that could be boxed and sold. Ironically, the app might get more exposure if it was on the shelf at Best Buy.

I don't think Blender is taken seriously enough, and I'm hoping that will change. It's more than just a toy; it can be used professionally for everything from games to film. It may have some rough edges (I'll keep my opinions to myself ;-) but this is a program that has an AMAZING feature set.

I was surprised that when I googled "free 3d modeling application" and "3d modeling application" I didn't see Blender in the first three pages. I'm hoping someone at Wired will take notice. Perhaps I'll send along a message and explain that they're not seeing spam, they're seeing raw enthusiasm. I'll send them a link to the Gallery and the Features.

Just offering another perspective. =D

@Gryphon: it's not, but please don't add it. I agree with mike pan: there are so many Blender sites there now that they'll probably see it as spam. I don't want to be a spammer :)
