Ton Speaks at the Dutch Game Days 2006
Ton Roosendaal will be giving a presentation called ‘Open Source Blender’ during the ‘Focus on Themes and Future Vision’ session at the Dutch Game Days 2006 in Utrecht on november 23rd 2006.
Ton didn’t think the event was worth commenting on for us, which I think is strange. We know by now that BlenderNation is not only being read by Blender artists, but also by the 3D industry in general, and extra coverage of these events only benefits Blender.
If any readers are going, we’d love to hear some feedback on this session and on the day in general.

Maybe he is under a gag order from the organizers who want people to pay for knowing whats happening there.
maybe – but all I can say is – even if I did live in the netherlands – it’s very unlikely I would pay that much money just to find out what was going on lol ;) -epat

Can I just say here that Blender’s one big fault is the game file import and export functions, many of which are non-existant, or broken.
I use Blender to make models for a Duke Nukem High-res mod and we were searching high and low for an Quake 3 format exporter. One of our own guys had to write one in the end. Last I checked, the importer wasn’t working either.
Blender would make some major in-roads into gaming if the game im/exporters were revamped to actually work. This goes double since poor old G-Max felt the axe.
kinda true I guess, however, I’ve been able to get meshes without any problems into UT2k4 using the goofos 6.1 ase exporter, and a friend of mine got stuff working into Half Life2 with some plugin he found somewhere.
It would be neet if there where better default plugins bacause it is still a bit tedious, but it works, so I’m happy with it.
