Do you know the process of animation? Well, if you don`t know for sure all steps; just take a look at some videos produced by Dale Mayers Animation Studios, where Dale Mayers himself, explains all the process. The videos go through five steps, from the storyboard until the rendering.
Since the videos doesn`t focus on any specific software, there is no problem to apply those concepts to produce an animation with Blender. You can check out the videos here.

Cool videos, pretty easy to understand.
I wonder what compositing software was shown. It looks familiar.
The comp software is Adobe After Effects. An older version too –back to 5.5 or perhaps 6- when it had a messy interface.

It's only a pity he's not using Blender for modeling and compositing.

Thanks, I like the info on the process of putting it all together. It is so easy to get caught up in the technical challenges, that the bigger picture including the artisitic decisions get burried. (At least for me.) I will be forwarding this to lots of friends.
You know, the actual animation in the final commercial isn't that good :/ It sounds like the team was so obsessed over subtle, meaningful animation they really didn't spend much time on the big picture other then basic storyboards. The rendering seems really bad, as does the compositing.
Subtle animation is great, but spending ten weeks on animation and having it turn out this way seems a little odd. I'm not sure why, in another section of the site, dale says he's really happy about "this high-quality work".
I've seen some of their other stuff though, and it looked much better. They should have used one of those for their tutorial videos, not this crappy commercial. :)

agree with joe, what I found amazing was the way that Dale Mayers looked like an animation himself.
It's probably just old and even a few years in CG can seem like eons. For locally produced content around the time of AfterEffects 5.5 (several years ago) this most likely was high quality. I've seen worse locally.
