Talking Dog Commercial
We recently used Blender in a few commercials we did for a company out of Virginia called “Woodfin”. In the commercial we made their mascot ‘Watch Dog’ talk. We targeted Blender as the ideal software for its ability to composite from within without having to export video or use additional software. This made the process of modeling, texturing, animating and compositing one fluid motion.
The commercials also stand as a testimony to collaboration projects as our graphics house is located in the Vancouver Washington area and the film company (Rob Collins Productions) is a local Virginia company. Our projects were sent back and forth and came to be full broadcast ready work. We also had the opportunity of working with Rodger Wickes on the project who was responsible for animating and compositing several of the commercials in the 13 spot series. He has also included a section in his new book “Foundation Blender Compositing”.
This project was a lot of fun for all of us who had a chance to work on it and got us hooked on using Blender here at Illuminated Dreams.

Cool! There’s a write-up on this dog-talking stuff in the latest Blender Compositing book. I thought the last video was the best; the guy kinda sounded like he said “Ass Woodfin” at the end of the first. :-)

I don’t mean to rain on anyone’s parade, but I think it could be better. In a number of the shots I can clearly see the seam between the animated mouth and the real dog, kind of like it was pasted on. But obviously I’ve never done a talking animal before so I’m sure it’s a difficult task.
Hey – good stuff. Yes, you can spot the seam, but I do think you did an impressive job.

yeah the seam is obvious.
maybe its more fun to exaggerate the whole thing if you cant get it perfect…
Where’s the seam ? It does look as though the head has been tracked and an animated mouth added but I can’t see a seam.
ahhhhhh….errrrrrrrr….please take this writeup/commercial off the blendernation site before it drives potential users to another program. If it was done by an 8th grader I’d say great, but since it was supposed to be professional…yikes. Just horrible.
I agree. This is an embarrassment, whether it be blender related or not. It’s hardly a professional project.
