simon-fraser-studentsStudents at Simon Fraser University in Canada used Blender, and shared their results.

In the summer I took a technical course on computer animation at Simon Fraser University taught by Dr. Richard (Hao) Zhang. In class he taught us the mathematics and theory behind animation. We used that knowledge to create short animations in groups of 3-5 people. Most of us had zero 3D modeling or animation experience. Blender was highly recommended because it is quite powerful and freely available.

With the exception of the Michael Jackson video everyone used Blender to create their animations.

Kudos to the students from my alma mater. Wish they had courses using blender when I was there.

I dont understand why BLewndernation show this kind of stuff… god.. it's horrible…. THere should be some "filter" on what is shown here… god….

what a nice comment you make there !?
Maybe blendernation can offer you a job as a censor, and than i mean ONLY you. You being so enormous good at modelling/animation, and with your good sens of taste and style it will all be allright in the future.

Within the context, students/ no previous 3d experience, the results are not bad at all (my opinion).
I especially liked the lion-hair, and story of the penguin.

If that is your opinion.. why you censored mine with that stupid comment? Im just saying that if we all want to show how good blender is… this is not the way…

Nobody has to be nice… that is something i see very often in blender users.. because the works are made in blender means you have to be nice and permissive :S

PD: if you liked means you have same level, good sens and taste as them.

What a great idea for a class!! Looks like it was a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing!

They are interesting. Considering the focus of the course (technical theory behind computer animation), the animations are quite good. I don't know how much time they would have for this assignment (maybe 2 weeks, perhaps 2 months), but learning Blender from scratch in that time, learning to model, texture, rig, light and animate, and then coming up with these in about that much time is no small feat. The course is a technical course on computer animation. They would first go over linear algebra and review dot and cross products, then learn how 4×4 matrices are used to hold pixel information (one set of coordinates for the camera, one for the object, one for the world, and one for scale), then they would go about learning algorithms for curve generation, etc. Thats the main focus of this course. Their films in that light are quite original, and the effort must have been considerable. Eraser man was my favorite.

    LOL!

The "Flight of the Penguin" uses a tree model that I designed and released on the Blender Model Repository. Boy I was a noob then. The tree model was terrible, but I guess it is nice to see that someone liked it. I must say, though, that they messed up the subsurf and textures so that it looks like pretty bad.

    Still I find it humorous.

    Awesome guys!

Great to see some Blender activity in Vancouver. Hope to see you all at the next user group meeting. :)

So let's see YOUR fantastic work.

    @vidrazor2:

You are right, the videos are nothing special, but it is pretty special that Blender was being used for the university course.

    Wow, a 400 level course!
    - I wish my school had a course like that – then I could show off my skillz :)

Good job – I liked the "don't shake the shaving cream" the best – it was clear , to the point , and was pretty funny :D

    @ vidrazor2 : don't feed the trolls

Wow, They make animations in a short time while I was not able to animate a thing (just stills). Maybe I should look Blender animation up. Thanks, the efforts they show is really enlivening.

wow some body didnt get told what a good lil boy he was when he was young Id guess.
I thought thay were very COOL.
Im only just starting and teaching myself (with help from all the wonderfull tut's) so seeing something that is not QUITE perfect in some peoples eyes………*gabrielh* is very encoreging to me
