    LOL that was cool!

Wow, vegetarians and vegans alike look away.

Very nicely done. Some of the text was a bit disappointing with common errors or awkward wording. But if the artist was truly concerned with that they would have had it proof read, so it's not a big deal as it's not as important to the artist as the rest of it was.

Still very well done. The part about how it has enough strength to stop an Armadillo was quite funny.

    Very, very nice!

    congrats to the author(s).

    hehehe :)

My only complaint is that the viewer doesn't have enough time to read the blurbs, they disappear too quickly.

    @roofoo
Agree. But that is probably just another sign of the genius of the artist–it gets you to watch the video multiple times to catch all the text. ;-)

:)) ha ha ha ..hi hi hi …. so cool :)) …hi hi hi…I can't help myself =))

Whooooow… Now that's what we call overkill. Hehehe! But pretty neat, eh? ^_^ Poor lil starving mouse.

    Wasn't expecting this…

As the artist I may as well explain some things -

The text blurbs are sort of just 'there' because it was part of the mock brief I was given for the project by my studio mentors. I was much more focussed on the main model and the rendering. I might revisit them a bit and change some of it to random statistics about pressure and so on so you don't feel the need to read all of it. The other thing is that it is designed as a piece for my reel, so I'll be chopping and changing it a bit anyway to fit in with other work.

(Reading through it again – yeah… need to fix some things. Thanks Levi.)

Also – I explain it a little better in the forum thread, but rest assured I would never build such a thing to catch real mice.

    Cheers all for the comments!

    Ben.

    awesome!

    Wow!

    Very nice!!
    Great fire effect!

  13. 13 DramaKing

    That was terrible!

(But kind of cool, too) :)

  14. 14 Pawel

A bit shocking. But in fact more humanitarian than most mouse traps, as the destruction is instantaneous :)
    Very nice technically.

And nobody commented on the steampunk stuff yet ?!

If it was just the mouse trap it wouldn't be so cool. It's the fact that this mouse trap is :
    - a wonder of mechanical precision, made of shiny brass
    - and it's not only a mechanical wonder, it's also an nice piece of art, with use of (I presume) mahogany wood and other precious material

Truly a mouse trap fit for a mad 19th century victorian mad scientist gentleman.

Have someone noticed that in Blender camera movement is rather odd – not smooth I mean -this is evident in the first second of the animation -Is this the problem of Blender itself or the animator?

  17. 17 Ben Dansie

I spent a lot of time fiddling with the curves on the camera, so probably the animator.

@aws357 – Cheers! Glad someone likes the style. Visual research on this project was a lot of fun.

@Others – Thanks again for your comments. I've tweaked the blue info boxes a bit (here) but not sure whether it is worth putting it online yet seeing as it is riding the Blendernation wave. (Thanks Bart!) They are a little longer in timing, but not much and the text has been altered. Same general idea and gags, but more straight forward grammatically and a little shorter.

Anyway, back to the other portfolio pieces…

haha very awesome!!'I've seen some really weird steampunkish animations/compositions but this one is reaaaly awesome :D
    5/5 if i could vote!

Ha. Wow. You thought of everything…even that the cheese melts away in the heat. Beautiful.

  20. 20 Tallguy

Ahhhh, that was a nice warm fuzzy for my morning. Nice modeling, texturing, and an overall sense of wacky fun. Well done.

  21. 21 Lolitopp

Hah! That was something quite interesting.
    Looks realistic as well.

  22. 22 alt-here

Was there suppose to be sound with that video? If not, it would be a hell of a lot better if it did!

  23. 23 Hovergo

    LLLove it.

All the above nit picking aside, when viewed as the zany animation it is meant to be, it stole the show, for me.
For us the text did not matter, it was part of the component development in the story.
Congratulations and I wish I had a smattering of that talent.
    Roger

  24. 24 Toby Haynes

    Very 'nice' concept and 'execution'.

My only question – who is brave enough to put another piece of cheese in the trap?
