JiriH has created this nice squash and stretch ball rig to give beginners an introduction to rig animation. However, note that the rig only works for Blender 2.46 RC and hopefully the final 2.46 release as well.

Jiri writes:

More and more Blender users are starting to practice animation. As we know professional squash & stretch ball rig is the must to start with. After weeks and weeks of research I am releasing Blender Squash Stretch Ball rig.

I plan to release in depth DVD video tutorial during this summer as well. Hope that release notes are clear, I tried to make a rig very animator friendly and intuitive. Looking forward to your videos :-)

    Haha! That's hilarious. Out of all the days in the world. Just today I cracked down and decided to
    learn shape key drivers and using them to squish and stretch a ball. Not this is here?
    Awesome.

    I'm also using blender but in max u have special modifiers for this kind of things like stretch, squash etc. U don't have to spend additional time for rig setup. but tut is great

    @Aka

    Blender has them too: they're called 'lattice modifiers'

    Rockin! Never seen such an advanced setup for a ball, and a good one at that.

    hey are there any animating tutorials around that teach squatch and stretch ?

    Very cool! The auto-roller function doesn't seem to work in 2.46 RC3, works fine in 2.46 RC2.

    That is the sexiest thing I've seen in a while…

    nice. will be great for rolling the ball around and doing some good bouncing techniques. Not just beginners can use this rig… unless more advanced users would make their own…

    Auto-roll works in RC4.
