SIGGRAPH Encore is Free until Oct. 31st

sigg_enc.jpgDidn’t get to go to SIGGRAPH this year? Or maybe you’ve never been there and feel like you’ll probably never be able to go. Well, here’s your chance to see all of the great presentations and materials that you’ve missed!

Get full access to over 1100 video presentations from SIGGRAPH 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2007!

SIGGRAPH Encore is a great way to check out the exciting materials and presentations. Normally, this is a paid service but, they’re generous enough to make these materials freely available until October 31st!

Check it out before it’s too late.

Thanks goes to LetterRip for the hot tip.

There’s so much available to check out on their site but, probably one of the most practical and effective presentations was the one given by Pamela K. Thompson, called “Resumes and Demo Reels: If Yours Don’t Work, Neither Do You!”. If nothing else, watch this one, especially if you already have a resume and/or demo reel. It’s extremely good inside information.

Hey, I’m getting a quicktime error in firefox and IE…

  6. 6 Arek Bal

Hmm… That error is a bit of a standard.
    In all browsers…
After some time browser is just turning down with no cause.

I already watched quite a “few” of them and always the same.

OK, now I’m really regretting the $200 I shelled out for the complete conference set…

  10. 10 TroutMask

that has to be one of the worst content delivery systems i’ve ever seen. nothing works.

    God praise my Linux!
God praise my Firefox MPlayer Plug-In!

The people who have it sure know what i mean. =)

  12. 12 Kernon

You might need to install the latest version of quicktime. I’m on xp and firefox with no problems. I’m pretty sure the people of Siggraph understand the technologies.

  13. 13 LoMac

    Sweeeeeeeeeet!!!

you can find it at the end of the page.

  16. 16 CGuy

man, I wish I had DSL… I’ll have to use my College’s wifi… cool stuff!

  17. 17 humble

I am pretty sure they use technology that comes out in a few years, so my PC with latest quicktime and browsers is unfortunately incapable to show their website.
And even my browser even crashes (Yeeha), something that has never happened with my firefox before…

    …damn, I wanna watch this stuff…

    @humble
How much memory do you have? It may be some sort of caching issue. These are really huge videos (some are over 6 hours!).

Some tips I found (totally unrelated to the Encore page):
    - go to Quicktime’s prefs -> Advanced and choose “Safe Mode (GDI only)” in the Video area
    or
    - set the Direct Draw mode to Safe mode

This is where I got the tips from: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=3035842

If that doesn’t help, you could also try:
    - check to make sure you have the latest Java Runtime.
    - try clearing your cache
    - have you done a cold boot of your system and tried it then?
    - what other applications are running in the background?

  19. 19 humble

    Hey Kernon,
    thanks for your help.

Memory is enough, I had a cold start, I have the latest java runtime (downloaded some days ago), my cache was cleared also some days ago and no other apps are running in bg…

… but it works in safe mode! Thanks a lot!

(maybe the sg team should work on that)

It says download for a fee. But the download link for the quicktime is easily findable in the source. Would it be ethical for me to download some of the videos to watch since my connection is much too slow for streaming?

  21. 21 TroutMask

it’s working now. perhaps it was just overloaded this morning.

I’ve just been though the 2007 videos and here are the ones I’ve picked out for me. You might like them too.

The “sketch-based interface” video is also amazing! New Blender request…. ;-)
