Yes!!! I am working towards it. Only 4 days to go until the clock strike's midnight! :)

God speed on our efforts, fellow Blenderheads!

  2. 2 yagraph

    Working on it too :)

Good luck to every one, it'll be a "polishing portfolios" week-end !

  3. 3 johantri

hurry! the clock is ticking :)

  4. 4 endi

Why no external artists? I dont understand… Of course a core team needed, but many works can be done with external workers.

  5. 5 Sago

@endi, having externals is always a possibility. Even with BBB it saved our ass. But having an in house team is the main priority.
Also, having external artists means extra tasks for some in house people (communication, preparation, cleaning up). I speak out of experience.

    Good luck to the participants!

Has anybody bothered posting this to slashdot? This seems like a "news" worthy project.

    Go banor! :)

  8. 8 banor

Sago: Thanks for the info. :) If we don't make the core team, could we make the second (backup) team?

  9. 9 redbyte

I will definately be submitting mine.
Ever since I saw the behind the scenes work of BBB, I've been dying to take part. It looks like a fantastic opportunity, not to mention a heap of fun!

    May the best man win!

    Or woman.

    Just a thought.

My reel pieces are still rendering. About to fire up a second machine…

  11. 11 rogper

    Or girl :)

  12. 12 Ben

Ha! Thought that might happen somehow.

  13. 13 rogper

:P same time, same answer hehe

    @endi:
What are you going to do if an external worker does not deliver on time? kick his/her ass?

And how to control the quality that externals deliver? Internal thats rather easy, as a director do a little walk and talk to the artist that his work sucks and need to be polished… Online this is far more difficult, not only to write it down with the right words so the artists doesnt think "sod off". But also with timing, messaging up and down takes way more time and you can't have great make-up sex, okay, make-up beer. (same thing).

I did some texturing at home for elephants dream, so I guess it is possible to help.
Also I managed the translation of elephants dream into 40+ languages and author the dvd.
So are ways to help. But I guess the core team needs to feel that handing out work saves time, not just cost.

An actual online collab would be super though. But I think also super difficult to manage and maintain quality and drive.

I'm preparing too: there was no so much time I thought! :( Anyway, I'm running!

Joeri and Sago are right: in my experience, having colleagues not in-house is a time consuming especially for comunication! Even if they were good, I met a lot of problem just to type by msn or email what to correct or do next and I had to do my tasks too!
The fact is the project is really amazing and it needs a lot of work, maybe a backup team, quite updated daily, could be a good thing, BUT it depends by core team: if they are good enough and create strong and clear relationships, I see no big problems and backup team will be useful just for few and little things.

Just to clear things up a little, external artists have been a possibility from the word go.

    http://durian.blender.org/about/ -

"Online help from artists: whenever possible and appropriate, we’d like to involve artists as a ‘2nd unit’ as well. Requirements for such artists are similar to those who will work here. Wait for the project to start to learn more about how to get involved.

Online help from developers: this will be coordinated via the regular official blender.org development channels."

Portfolio almost done… back to it.

    It's now: 10, 17h UTC

And for mainland europeans like myself that means 19:00 (GMT +1 and another +1 for dailight savings time)

  19. 19 thinkinmonkey

What?!?! I'm from Italy… it's june 9 now for me… is it not tomorrow at 16.00 because I'm 1 hour+ according to Greenwich?!?!

  20. 20 macouno

Thinkinmonkey, Italy as far as I know is CET, thus 19:00 tomorrow, june 10th just like us here in the Netherlands.

  21. 21 Bart

@macouno: I think he was confused when you said 'It's now [June the] 10th', as in 'Today is June 10th' ;-)

  22. 22 thinkinmonkey

Anyway, is it today or tomorrow?

  23. 23 rogper

    @thinkinmonkey:
