New Project London Clip

Phil McCoy of Project London has recently uploaded a new video clip featuring special effects shots from the Project London film, showing the live action footage and 3D animation composited together!

Phil McCoy writes:

Hi there. We just completed and posted a new clip for the Ian Hubert film, Project London. I'm hopeful you remember us. If not, we are working with a number of talented Blender Artists to create visuals for the film. This clip is the first we've released that displays some of the Blender animation with the live action footage. We are really excited by the results we are getting from Blender. You can see the clip over at Vimeo.

Thank you! Let me know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Phil McCoy

Looks like some serious effort is going into this. Any hopes for a cinematic release? That would benefit the Blender community, users and developers alike…

Cinematic release or not, good luck with this project.

  4. 4 BB

    Heck!
that robot looks professionally finished and animated, ready for a feature film.

Now thats what I call impressive….

I think, after Elephants Dream and Big Buck Bunny, Blender Foundation needs to concentrate on a film project integrating live footage with Blender CG, similar to this. Not necessarily Sci-Fi (and probably better off not), but top-notch filmaking CG applications like set extensions, matchmoved scenes, visual FX, etc.

This is the holy grail of 3D production, and with ED and BBB as portfolio backup, BF can have a complete production portfolio to show that film production companies can really start to look beyond the 'ol boy network and take full control of their production destinies.

So many FX houses spend so much money on maintenance contracts, mostly to autodesk, for their software maintenance. That's money that could be better spent on in-house programmers advancing the state of blender in a production pipeline (and eventually trickling back to us).

Really, I think BF needs to concentrate on this as a high priority project. I think it would really "seal the deal" in putting blender WAY up on the production radar screen.

vidrazor: I think that actually IS what the next project Durian is all about…

The only problem I have with this video :
    - TOO
    - DARN
    - SHORT

    :)

Sounds like Durian started long ago. xD

  10. 10 panzi

Cool! Cant wait for Project London to be finished.

going by what was written in 3d world when the did the article on BBB, its the project after Durian that is supposed to have the vfx to quote "Roosendaal and his team are already preparing for their fourth project("a 4K cinema epic with monsters") and after that VFX for film"

  12. 12 banor

@vidrazor: Yes, it would be great to have live action mixed with VFX!
@Morten: Actually, it is project Mango (I think) that will have the live action in it.
@tyrant monkey: Ha, I like your username. lol. ;) Anyhow, thank you for the info – wow, monsters? Hopefully that will turn out. And 4K? Sweet! Imagine download speeds for that! ;P

very nice work, I remember the first clip posted on BN and was suitably impressed by that. This one tops that :)
It will be interesting to see the whole film in its final form. The short clip works very well for a teaser, short sweet and hooks you. Congrats.

  14. 14 draetsch

    Blender is just plainly cool.

Does anyone know if they used the internal Renderer or some other thing?

  15. 15 Ian

    Yup! All internal renderer.

    Blender is crazy cool.

  16. 16 draetsch

ow THATS really cool. For this filmwork the renderer seems quite capable.

Need to push that a little more.

  17. 17 trinity5150

The short video looks very cool. I followed some links to some of the other videos and it looks like a lot of home videos. The computer rendered material is cool though.

  18. 18 kijja

Your CG part very inspire. Wait to see all. Look for best story too.

  19. 19 Billamu

    Looking good Project London.

  20. 20 meltingman

    Splendid :-)

es muy lindo el visual . felicitacion por su trabajo :-).

  21. 21 Ian Hubert

Draetsch! Yeah! I've never had any problems at all with it, and tend to actually prefer the results with it to the results I get with my (admittedly limited) experimentations with Yafray and the like.

Trinity… You must have followed some links to videos not associated with this project- the only moving bits we've released are this clip and one with giant robots punching each other in the face.

    So…. much…. CG.

  22. 22 banor

@Ian Hubert: Hey, thanks for popping in! Great to hear the inside info and opinions from the top of the operation. ;) Thanks for working on this film! I hope the story is compelling. Cheers!
