Modeling a Coke Bottle

That will come in handy for some different types of bottles on my to do list for a project that attracted me to Blender in the first place. It’s tutorials for making common items like this (Coke bottle being more of a classic item since the plastic replacements of the 80’s,) that will really help me to achieve my creative goals for 3D animations. Thanks to anybody and everybody involved in teaching us Blender newbies these things.

I was doing something the same with a tin can wich i liked to make as lifelike as possible. I’ve finished the can but can’t get the texture to be very realistic. I also can’t get the lighting just right. Perhaps this tutorial wil help me out on these last two things.
I can’t understand that there isn’t a database with stuff like textures and such. There’s a lot of tutorials, but i couldn’t find any clue (or am i looking in the wrong direction) on how to make a decent aluminium texture or the moisture on the outside of the can.
Isn’t it an idea to collect some samples, so beginners can study them, in a database?
I’m having trouble getting around flow 7’s site. i think there is something wrong with the links. could someone explain what’s wrong.

Did anyone notice that the result of the tutorial is different from what’s provided in the blend file? After doing the tutorial, you have a solid brick of glass, whereas in the .blend (and in the example renders), you have a bottle. These must either be some steps missing or I’m again a complete idiot :)

@Carl: you’re right, Carl. it would end up as a solid block. the way to fix that is when you’re creating the shape with the curves, continue to shape the inside of the bottle. Stephen made the right choice in not adding that, ’cause it would confuse the example pictures alot with two layers of geometry. the principles still remain the same, though. you just have to make sure, when you’re creating the ribs in the side, that you only scale the outside vertices, and not the inside. the inside should be smooth.
Heh. I’ve done that type of stuff before. Clever but basic.

@MrE: Try searching for “blender materials” on the web, or “Blender Material Repository”. The latter is where people are encouraged to upload textures for use. Still not the resource that it could be, but maybe it could start you off at least. The other place to look is in the BlenderArtists forum, or ask a question if you can’t find an existing thread.
how nostalgic. I wonder which blender version was used for this very old tutorial.
But today, I would rather use a modifier to do it.
Anyway it cover some very useful basis.

This is a very good tutorial–well laid out, clear directions–follow the steps and you will have a very nice coke bottle!
